Independent thinkers inform ourselves to attack liberal issues that threaten our principles of fiscal responsibility; we don't try to keep others down; thus allow our weaker nature to become meaner and smaller than our best selves.
Independent thinkers do not feel that someone else ALWAYS has to lose in order for us to win!

Children play touch football on the playground, yet each school has organized (voluntary) football squads.
This same logic applies to debate clubs. Debate clubs are meant for a higher echelon of skill.
Do not attempt to departmentalize our childrens success.
In order to be able to have a chance at success in this global economy, each and every student should learn the basic ins and outs of debate. Debate skills are needed all the time, from convincing a banker of your credibility during a car or home purchase, or negotiating contract terms on a personal loan.
Oftentimes, a rebuttal is brought up that there's not enough time in the curriculum to add things like student debate. My answer to that - how many times per year does Springboro schools have stupid 1 hour "late start" days? Get rid of late start days! If and when a meeting is necessary, Boro teachers need to be doing what teachers did two and three generations ago, and that's COME TO SCHOOL EARLY or STAY LATER.
There! I just freed up about five or six hours worth of debate time for our students!
I could agree with getting rid of "late start" days. Also I appreicate the fact that in your debate examples you cited more worth-while debates than evolution vs. creation. Nice compromise, now let's convice the other 10 people on this site :)

"Do not look back in anger, or forward in fear, but around in awareness." - James Thurber
……in the direction of leadership
By David Petroni

The 2013 Board of Education campaign is taking shape in Springboro, and there is a clear theme emerging from three of the candidates. The opposition’s run for school board seems to be fueled by fear. It is dark and angry — promising to bring calm to a storm.
The problem with their platform is that there is no storm.
If there is a sense of turbulence in our community, it has been manufactured by those who oppose change, wish to suffocate debates they would surely lose, and return to the days of endless levies, punitive actions against our citizens, and never ending financial emergencies within the district.
Why would our community want to do that?
An accurate look at the past reveals:
Five failed levies
Fees raised, busing cut, and staff reduced
Buses neglected compromising student safety
The district failed to purchase books, technology and buses
A technology plan that was an uncontrolled mixture of items that did not work together costing approx.$200,000 to fix
Waste of $170,000 in textbooks that were never distributed or used
Maintenance deferred to the detriment of district buildings, staff and children
The rigor of the high school program of studies was reduced (Education Service Center audit report)
Promotion of the failing euphemism “Proficient” as the standard to be attained by our children
Fewer students took advantage of AP and other early college credit opportunities
A “D” grade on gifted intervention from the state
A “C” grade on the lowest 20% in achievement from the state
Now, an accurate look at today reveals:
A balanced, children-first budget
Lower fees, busing restored, staff restored
“Efficiency” plans that directed resources to gifted and reading intervention for this year (before release of the state report card)
New curriculum designed to surpass state minimum standards
Additional teachers and aides hired
Opened preschool / early learning center
A/P courses expanded in areas that make sense
Dual Credit classes to be added at high school allowing students to gain college credit while in high school
New emphasis on PSEO program, which allows students to attend college while in high school for full college credit
Coordinated technology plan so everything works with one another
Wireless access for every building
New laptops to every teacher. More than 1,100 new computers throughout the district
Renewal levy set to a lower millage rate to give back more than $1.3 million per year to our community
-continued

Why would our community want to go back to the past? We have sought to change the status quo, and that is difficult, but debate does not equal harm. The politically correct tenet that spirited discussion is harmful stifles new ideas. When a blanket of suppression covers the conversation, the only sure losers will be our community and the children we serve.
Educate Springboro looks to the future–using the knowledge of the past, but with direction toward a goal. While the Board of Education has made missteps in the past year and a half, they were made in a public and transparent fashion. This transparency allowed the community to engage and round out our actions to reflect their wishes and desires. It produced better, more properly vetted ideas and actions, and our schools are better for it. When we work together and talk to each other about the issues, better solutions are developed.
Our leadership is navigating us away from the repeated failures of the past and toward a better future for our schools. We are leading with a goal to provide every Springboro child the opportunity to acquire all the knowledge and intellectual skills they possibly can. It has been our desire to remove all barriers that might restrain them from their innate desire to inquire, explore, and absorb everything they can. Looking to the past, copying failed policies, and fearing change does not remove barriers to improvement, it imposes them.
We’ve built a financial foundation on the principle of fiscal responsibility. We’ll continue to make changes that make sense; for example, eliminating underutilized courses to fill needs in other areas. We won’t propose new classes just to fill an employee’s schedule and avoid a difficult decision. We won’t continue relationships with service providers that don’t provide the best value just because working with them has been past practice. We’ll continue to demand integrity and ethics from everyone we work with from boosters to vendors, from students to administrators.
Common sense, ethics and sound financial decisions guide Educate Springboro. Share this with your friends and neighbors.
The fear of change will not chase our community back into the darkness of previously failed practices.
Let’s stay on this new course and move in the direction of leadership for our children, schools and community.

What's a lot worse than misinformed parents? The millions of apathetic parents who don't care enough to have involvement whatsoever with their children's studies or curriculum content.

Many of today's liberal educators really like apathetic non-involved parents because apathy, in and of itself, keeps parents out of their hair. Most certainly, parent apathy makes the mission of liberalizing schoolchildrens minds so much easier.

Good Question!
Springboro citizens generously financially support our school superintendent and staff of professional educators to "instruct in an ACCURATE manner based upon...."
So why are we hearing, in public board meetings, the defiance of one of our school employees, Gail Dauber, who argues she is accountable to NO ONE, to teach anything except what is based on HER biased and political opinions? Where is the responsibility in that leadership influence upon the minds of our young people?
And WHY is Gail Dauber rewarded for her poor performances in the board room (in front of the entire community of taxpayers) with THREE supplemental contracts INCREASING her supplemental pay "three fold?"
Approval to Employ Supplemental Personnel Gail Dauber:
HS - Mock Trial $1,514.00
HS - Social Studies Dept. Head $2,270.00
HS - Senior Class Advisor $1,651.00
Which one of our school district leaders approved these supplemental pay increases for Gail Dauber, then sent them to the pubic board meeting to be liberally rubber stamped?
I am sure these are all incredibly important positions within the school hierarchy, but exactly what does a Senior Class Advisor do that is worth $1651?

Good god tell it to Schweikart, he brought it up. The stock market is now at it's highest it's ever been. It was just under 8,000 when Obama took office. It has climbed over 7,000 during the Obama presidency (almost doubling). But I'm guessing you'll find a way to not give him credit for that.
Let the partison rant begin....GO
The stock market rising is a result of a couple of things, number one interest rates at on money markets in the less than 1% range cause people to look elsewhere for better returns. Result money flows out of money markets into stocks in search of greater profits.

Bonds work in an inverse relationship to inflation or the threat of inflation. Higher inflation or threat of inflation equals lower bond pricing so investment nets an equal return or greater to compensate for the effects of inflation.

Exponentially increasing the money supply has added many new dollars without the corresponding assets to back them up. More money available for investment means more money bidding on the scarce assets, price goes up.

Ultimately the economy will begin to pick up steam again and inflation will raise its ugly head, interest rates will have to rise to contain its fury, money will flow out of risky stock market investments into safer money markets.

Rinse and repeat.

Aside from artificially increasing the money supply no new value has been created. Ask anyone who bought a house in 2008 if they are getting their money out of it again.
