The reason that the Salem Mall closed is simple.
They were close, walking distance, to a bus line.
They had a MOVIE THEATHER in the MALL itself.
They had a Video Game court that drew an inordenate crowd of unsupervised young people.
They were willing to trade SECURITY for the money TEENAGERS brought.
If you look at how DAYTON has changed, from the 70's to the way it is now, it mirrors the change of the Salem Mall.

I've never heard about non-Diversity people doing a wilding thang.

No one is a criminal or thug in momma's eye. That is the problem.

Diversity momma's don't believe their progeny do anything wrong because they purposefully planted the seeds of the wrong-doing.

The lack of diversity: Not enough nice polite prosperous civilized liberal white suburbanite shoppers, with spoiled spawn, to make up for juvenile delinquents, drop outs, hip hop rap crap drug thugs, criminals, vandals, loiterers and shoplifters. Ain't it queer and weird, how so many nice white diversity-disciple liberals disappeared from here and did not go no mo', and instead went to those Dayton Mall and Fairfield Commons sto's?

Maybe when the hood rats from Dayton get the Fairfield Commons, via RTA, we can all go back to the Dayton Mall or maybe even the Salem Mall!! Thank you white suburbanites for not being racists, or if you are, for saying so!
Enjoy!

Better Holloween decorations.

We remember seeing "chalk outlines" in the parking lot before it closed.

And blood doesn't dry red, it's kinda brown looking.

As someone who worked in the mall from 94-98, I can say that the problem was the thugs. They scared off the shoppers and the final straw for the shoppers was one friday evening when there was a stabbing between what I assume was gang members at the top of the escalator at the food court. That was the end. In 97 the rumor mill around the mall began with the fact that some new anchor stores were being contacted to take over where penney, s and lazarus stood. However these stores allegedly de lined because if the past issues. The reputation, as hard as they tried to fix it, is what klled this mall. At least I will have my childhoid memories.

You are right Gary. Before it closed I was standing inside Sears looing at the inside mall traffic and one thug said to another one let's get that guy or me and the one said "No, let him alone!"

I still try to support the Office Depot at the nearly-empty Consumer Square down there, as we tried to do at the recently-closed Kmart that sits across the road from the abandoned Wal-Mart. This TOSHIBA laptop computer was sold to me by Office Depot, where I have bought a lot of copies and office supplies.

Sears sells good tools, lawnmowers, shoes and clothes. It was sad when the old once-high-class Rikes and Elder-Beerman Siebenthaler were finally closed. My Mom has closets full of Elder-Beerman clothes, and I have quite a few too.
