Lets start a debate about what we should or can do for or against the "burden" of society.

I don't care about the poor. I have poor in my family, so do you and everyone else.

We all know why they're poor and there's no heart sympathy because we know why.

So why does anyone think the rest of the poor are any different than the ones we have in our families.

If anyone wants to help the poor, help those in your family. If every family took care of their own there wouldn't be a need for welfare or food stamps.

If you won't take care of your own family members, why should I?

I have poor relatives. They are poor now just like they were in the late 60's when you would trip over good paying job walking to the bar. They went through the "Clinton Golden Years" begging and "couldn't find work" when unemployment was 4% during the Bush years. This recession has not hurt them one bit. They are still making the same living they have since the 60's. Life is full of choices and they make theirs.

Taking care of the poor in your own family, and your own elderly parents and relatives, was what Jesus commanded.
The Bible says that any man who does not provide for those in his family is worse than an infidel.
Contrary to popular opinion, nowhere in the Bible will you find the merest suggestion of wealth redistribution by the government, or socialism in any form.
Jesus said that those who seek the Kingdom of God first would have their needs met. Widows and orphans, those without family, are to be cared for by the church.
He had a lot more to say about money, and none of it involved giving society the authority to punish the rich. That is being judgemental, and that's God's privilige, not ours!

Wow you are all selfish, foolish, hippocrits. This really disturbes me...and you call yourselves Christians and use PARTS of the Holy Bible to support it. What about the whole moral of helping and sharing? Thats what its all about!!!!

Guess what else, basic economics tells us that poor people are not good for the system, so what do you do with them? No one answered; you can't do nothing.

I know many poor and jobless people, those who had jobs, and guess what, they want jobs but there's none out there and they've been looking. Thanks Mr. Bush.

That's right...You have NO HEART!!!!!

Guess you read a different Bible than I do.

Luke 3

10"What should we do then?" the crowd asked.

11John answered, "The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same."

Acts 4

32All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.

Ephesians 4

27and do not give the devil a foothold. 28He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

A religious argument, for or against, is a weak attempt to justify a position.

If however you want to use it, the Church should take care of the poor and hungry by the congregation's donations. You'll feel good about yourself and the church will be serving it's purpose.

Leave me alone. I JUST DON'T CARE!!!!!!!

Ah yes. trot out Acts 4, but always, always out of context!
Did you keep reading to the point where Paul says "Did you not know that what you had was yours to keep?" This phrase means that practicing collective living is NOT a precept of the church, and not all of the Christians in Jerusalem were practicing collectivism. Keep reading, later verses refer to homes that were still owned by Christians; the disciples still owned their boats. All references to helping the poor refer to family members and church members first, and change nothing I said.
Also later references refer to the "starving Christians in Jerusalem; these are the Christians who had sold eveything, and no longer had a means of income or food:their land. If ever there was the perfect illustration that collectivism is a Ponzi scheme that requires ever more money coming in, this is it.
Above all Jesus did not require collectivism, nor government mandated redistribution of wealth. Never.
Gosh, but folloing what Jesus really said makes Christians "selfish". My, my, why can't liberals just accept the fact that they have been misinformed? Would that take away your moral superiority?

Boy O Boy, trot out the Bible Thumpers and start quoting scripture.

Whether you understand the meaning or not.

I'm betting God didn't say, "I will create man to sit on his own azz and do nothing and his neighbor will take care of him, though he be able bodied and prefer azz sitting to work".

This isn't the Garden of Eden, this is the Miami Valley and as for the POOR?

Show why you can't work before we start giving you Welfare of SSI. Have some sort of plan. It's not supposed to be cradle to grave insurance, it's a hand up till you get on your own and get "YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER".

Anyone receiving government handouts should be subject to random drug testing.

You don't pass, you don't get the check. We all know how smoothly the folks at WELFARE work, so by the time you PASS a drug test weeks may go by before you get your benefits re-established.

Besides only a small portion of the world is Christian.

Your added wisdom only reinforces that we should be caring for others, regardless of your interpretation.
The only one I see claiming "moral superiority" is you, trying to claim that Christ did not council us to care for one another.

You are NOT reading what I have written. I did NOT say Christ said we didn't have to care for one another. I said He did not call for a mandated redistribtion of wealth, especially one run by the government. He did not, it is ALWAYS voluntary. We are to rely on God to provide for us, not government and not our neighbors. We are not to judge our neighbor's charitable deeds; nor brag about our own. In fact, Jesus told us to do those deeds in secret. In other words, what I do is not for you to know or judge, it is between God and me only.
Far from saying Jesus allows us to do nothing, I quoted what He did tell us to do! I said for instance that He commands us to care for our aging parents and relatives. He says we cannot make excuses for refusing to support them. Jesus would say there is no need for social security.
This no mere matter of my interpretation. Perhaps later i will be able to post some actual Bible commentary and study guides for your edification.

That would be a start. The so-called rich are the ones who supply the jobs. You have any?

I will tell you the same thing I told Kurt earlier this week that I'm sure you saw.
Intelligent people do not tolerate smut. They do not read it, speak it, listen to it, or watch it. Your multiple names and name calling are nothing but smut, making your opinion of me utterly irrelevant.
