A merge is bad. They will tell you that it is a good thing, yeah right good for the black ties fat pocket. I bet that ins went up. The reason that all of this negativity is being displayed is because of them words, THIS IS A GOOD THING, but it isn't for you

Apparently most of you have never worked in a factory before

The answer is simple. If you're unhappy then leave. If you can't stop complaining then leave. If you like your job and the people there then stay. It's factory life and that will never change.

The company thinks that they are #1. For the pay and upper manager skills I give Somic 2 well 5 thumbs down. It might be made in America but Japan is the ones making the money not America. If this isn't true, Somic workers pay would be up there with people that are employed by a company that makes parts for Ford, GM, Dodge.
You have 5 thumbs? That might be part of your problem.

iDONTworkTHERE must still be working there. Sounds like a BROWN NOSE statement. "Layoffs have begun" they call it salary for a reason and if you are not union, layoff happens for a reason, such as a earthquake in Japan maybe.

What the hell is a paddle lock? Maybe you should get an education! It is "padlock" you fucking retard! Yes they lay off the hourly first, guess why? The salaried employees are educated, and are more valuable than you! Look at how many uneducated people are out there looking for jobs, they are easy to find. You are the joke!

LMAO. I found this thread from a friend of mine, and I have to say this is some funny stuff. A lot of hate here I must say. It's too bad the two plants couldn't work together to make it a stronger company. I know what that one person was trying to say about the management in Brewer. I think they were trying to say that the company in Brewer is placing people without degrees into high paid salary positions. I guess we'll see what happens. It does seem kind of fishy, but maybe they're doing this management move to save money. I used to work in Brewer and still have friends that work there and the last thing I'd want to see the place shut down, but in my opinion if something was to happen, the Brewer plant would move south. Hope it works out for both plants. Good luck.

To me it all boils down to one thing. A power struggle. Not sure who or what is left there but when I was there it was a power struggle between the Japanese, a few Germans, the people in Maine and they were trying to run the place in little ole Wytheville, VA.
The people up north want to keep the work up there. The Germans and Japanese want to force their equipment on everyone and Wytheville wants the work but wants to run the place on the good ole boy system.
A recipe for a wreck!

Thank USA for Japan to give jobs in America. I thank Brewer will fade. From what I gather labor is cheaper in VA. Oh by the way exx Germans pay is a lot better than Japanese so what would you do. On a last note I heard that Honda is gone from Wytheville. If Honda is gone it will crumble. He might have been a hard ass but the facility ran like a Swiss watch. RIP WTI

The salary employees at Brewer are NOT educated.

Bottom line, the place don't stand a chance.

I agree, in general, the salaried people in Wytheville are not highly educated. What few, good people they get tend to leave very quick. On the other hand the people from Maine don't have all the answers either. Something must be wrong for them to want to move everything out of Maine to Wytheville. Probably the wages are cheaper here but it usually takes more than just that.

I agree with Happy on that note Honda was the Heart of that place and now he's gone. WTI will always remember Honda "We miss ya very much" If he came back there would be an earthquake there because he would not be happy with whats going on.

Wow I'm surprises the place is still going cannot believe the county hasn't shut them down on the waste water part yet I worked in the plating department ever since it started up and I was the only knowledge they had and after I left nobody knew nothing cause I took all of my notes and books so mr. PA was pretty well SOL. Talked to a few more that parted ways from that place and from what I hear its going down hill. I finally done better by getting out. Glade the others that parted ways are doing well for themselves.

Wow so much negativity!! There are some really great people working at Somic America.

Some of what everyone is saying here is true. But the reality is that manufacturing is dying in America. Anyone with a 4yr degree working in automotive should look around. You can make 25-50% more somewhere else working less hours with less stress.
