I am looking for a good OBGYN in the Wytheville area. Also, how is the hospital for deliveries/c-sections/maternit y & newborn care?

Wytheville is the WORST hospital I've ever seen! Dr. Fox delivered my 2nd son and she was horrible as well. At delivery she had to be called to the hospital(which took forever)finally when she arrived she had her baby daughter with her in the delivery room(holding her!)while delivery my son! Not only that but she couldn't remember my name nor if I was having a boy or girl. After 9 months of seeing her you think she would at least remembered my name! My first son was born in Radford hospital which was a MUCH better experience. I live in Wytheville and enjoy it here but when it comes to dr's & hospitals I make the drive to Radford.

Why does the hospital at Wytheville favor c-sections over natural childbirth?

Love, I'm sorry your birth experience was ruined!

This was a really tough choice for me, as my last birth was a difficult one. After doing a lot of searching, reading, and calling, we've decided to go to Bristol, TN. It's going to be a 1.5 hr. drive for us, but all 4 doctors at the practice have excellent reviews and I hear good things about the hospital as well.

Thank you all for your responses!

Wytheville is excellent. Fox is excellent. I just had a baby in March and got the best care I could've asked for from this hospital. I had an emergency C section and Fox was amazing. I also have heard great things about Bristol, TN, though. But don't rule out Fox. And I don't think Wytheville "favors" C sections. My child was in distress and the C section was done quickly and she did a superb job. The nursing staff and anestetist were fantastic. My birth was difficult because the position of the baby - not the hospital. Also, the rooms in Wytheville are lovely! Very conducive to the birthing process. But again, I heard Seasons in Bristol is great, too. good luck!

Karey, thanks for your response as well!

The birth of my second was very traumatic. He is alive and well, due in part to having an excellent doctor. I really wish I could go to him again, but his practice is no longer accepting my insurance.

I decided on Bristol because of all the great things I've read and I like that it's a bigger hospital. Plus, we can do some shopping for baby AND they have an IHOP there! What more could I ask for!?

i've had three kids, all at diffrent hospitals, and wytheville did just as good as as the others. unless your having complications, i think it would be best to stay close. i missed some of babies being born because we drove to other places, I couldnt make it in time.

That really stinks you missed out on some of the births.

I'm not saying Wytheville and/or Dr. Fox wouldn't do an excellent job. I just can't find a whole lot of information and that's scary for me.

My last birth was an emergency c-section. The anesthesiologist at the hospital apparently didn't get the emergency part and took his time. In order to get the baby out safely, the c-section had to be done with just local anesthesia (which does absolutely nothing for the deeper layers they have to cut through). I felt every cut and every one hurt worse. It was truly a nightmare, but if my doctor hadn't had the guts to just do it (with me agreeing of course), my son would not be here today. It's hard to put my trust in someone new.

I am going to have a scheduled c-section this time. So unless I go into labor before then (which would be my luck, but my labors are slow anyway so it should be fine), the timing won't be a problem for us.

Thanks again for the comments/advice!

I really don't know what the reason. However one girl I know is pregnant and she had a c-section the first time. Normal vaginal delivery with the second child. Now, with the third child both Ob/Gyn doctors in Wytheville are telling her she has to have a c-section. She is about 6 weeks into her pregnancy with no complications. According to the Mayo clinic website, she should be safe to deliver. The only issue is that since she had a previous c-section she should not labor at home. So, there is some reason for the insistance on c-section at Wytheville hospital. Be it liability, doctor don't want to stay with patient, or money. Who knows?

Dr. Fox is excellent. I had to have a c-section and it was very hard for me to deal with. I remember her checking in on me and she gave me a kiss on my four head. I absolutely love her! She can do V-Backs but Wytheville community hospital don't allow it because they don't have a blood bank and a anesthesiologist there 24/7. Which they need incase of uterine rupture. Radford does do v-backs and I really want to have a v-back but I want to keep Dr. Fox as my doctor, so now I have to pick weather or not to try for a v-back with another doc or stay with Dr. Fox (which I love) and have a c-section.

You gave reason why you don't like Dr. Fox, but no reason why Wytheville is the worst hospital you have ever seen.

I do have to agree. I beleive that when they went for profit the care went down. Lots of people chose Radford over Wythe Co.
