I think that the State of Oklahoma would be wise to consider and implement a law to screen drivers who have certain medical conditions as to them being qualified to drive. I also think it would be good to consider screening the elderly after they reach a certain age because of their reflexes being slower and because of their physical conditions. There should be a law for people who use drugs and drive just as well as for people who consume alcohol and drive, even if it's prescription drugs.

Well the person that caused the wreck is reportedly 62 years old....And when a vehicle crosses the center line, a person usually doesn't have enough time to "react" to that, regardless of what age you are !! This is just a sad, senseless wreck but I don't think age has anything to do with it....

Driving will under prescription pain or any other kind of meds that alter`s your abilty to drive carrys the same charges as getting them off the street get caught and you go to jail

Except for the middle one the State of Oklahoma already has laws on the books that deal with the issues of medical conditions and DUI prescription drugs.

These lovely women were very good friends of my parents, who had just spent time with them visiting in Missouri. They were on their way to a meeting in Tucson and all were very sharp and sound minded, physically able women. It is a horribly tragic accident for all involved. They will be missed terribly by so many family and friends who love them very much. They were always smiling, happy and fun to be around. GOD has 4 new wonderful angels to add to the light that shines down on us on earth.

My son & I were traveling to Pawhuska yesterday and drove past this accident scene. I was just horrible!! I thought I saw children, but no mention of children in this report.I was there before any emegerncy persons were on the scene. And there were some travelers that had stopped to try to warn other drivers as this accident was on a hill w/a curve. From what I saw, yes, the pick-up crossed the yellow lines. This is a very curvy roadway & I travel it quite often. Please pleople, heed the warning signs and slow down on this stretch of higway. I did pray for the souls of each one at the sight that God would recieve them with Great Joy! BTW, I did see life flight helicopter there on my return trip. My sympathies go out to all involved.

The older people get...the less alert they are (in general) and their reflexes or response time is much longer. That's why I think older people should be screened before DMV renews their drivers license.

The ladies killed were my friends and they were on their way to a Masonic meeting. They left a week early so they could do a road trip and see all the wonderful sites the west has to offer before arriving in Phoenix Az.. Each one of them will be greatly missed as we treasure each of them. Safe crossing my friends. Till we meet again and the circle will be complete. Hugs

This is a very sad situation. Though I do not know the women that were killed, I pray for their family and friends that were left behind to grieve for them. However, I do know the driver and his family members that were with him. My heart goes out to him and his family also. This is a tragic accident that will be with him the rest of his life. He along with his in-laws are great people that would never do anything to hurt anyone. There is no mention of the serious injuries his precious wife received or the bumps and bruises his two grandchildren received. Though he didn't know the women that were hit, he would never do anything intentionally to hurt his family or a complete stranger. God be with all involved in this horrific ordeal.

Jasper, I hope some day you don't have something as tragic as this happen in your life. You are an idiot to think that age was a factor in the loss of 4 lives. And Bodidly it wasn't "just an accident" are you kidding me? 4 lives were lost for no reason except that someone was irresponsible and didn't pull over when they were to tired to drive. For the above comment you are correct I'm sure the driver didn't attend to harm or kill anyone. But when we get behind the wheel of a car we have certain responsibilities and he disregarded all of them causing the loss of 4 lives. He should be held accountable for his actions. His wife did receive serious injuries and we hope she recovers. But lets not justify his actions or try to place the blame on someone else when he was clearly at fault. Deborah, Carrie and evryone else thank you for the kind words. I happen to know all 4 women, with LeVonne being my Mother-in-Law. All 4 women were great people who enjoyed life and these little trips that they would go on. They've all touched many lives (especially our Daughter Jordan) and will be greatly missed but not forgotten.

I've seen older drivers crossing center lines and the fog line, but not as much as someone who was texting while driving.

Robert yes this was a tragic accident and that is exactly what it was, an accident, Steve was less than 1 mile from the turn off to his house when this occurred and I assure you he is not an irresponsible person! I myself have had a full nights sleep before a long drive and got tired driving after just a couple of hours! I know the Berg's personally and they are wonderful people, his wife is an angel right here on earth. I am certain those 4 lovely ladies were just as wonderful. Yes the accident was his fault and if it makes you feel any better having known him the better part of my life I promise you he will never forgive himself for it. You shouldn't judge people you know nothing about.

Robert, I assure you, though none of us knew your mother-in-law or the other ladies in the vehicle, we are all grieving and praying for your families and friends as much as we are for Francis, Steve's wife. As far as trying to justify Steve's actions, I was not doing that. Steve is a very responsible family man, it's just that some people on here were judging him when I'm sure they don't even know him. I've known Steve's family for many years and I can assure you THEY are all praying for you and your family as well as the other families involved in this. Steve is the kind of man that will be willing to take responsibility for this. The fact still remains, it WAS a TRAGIC accident and I'm sure he and his family have wished thousands of times over that he could reverse the clock and have none of this happen to your mother-in-law, her friends or his wife.

So sorry for this most unfortunate accident involving four dear ladies from out of state and precious friends from Barnsdall. Please do not judge the driver of this vehicle as one who is unresponsible nor is he in any way limited due to age or health. My prayers are with all involved..families and friends of the ones who lost their lives, Frances who remains hospitalized, and Steve as he deals with the aftermath of what has happened. Have no doubt, this man is a man of great character and integrity who will never forgive himself for the events of October 11, 2009. He will do the right things concerning responsibility for what has happened and will have an entire community backing him as he does so.
