Why are these people standing in close proximity to cars which are intentionally made "out of control." Where are the barriers such as a chain link fence or bollards.

What can one say. common sense was apparently not being used here.

And why was the driver doing a burnout during a PARADE???? People are meant to be along the sideline during a parade and you would not think a stunt as dangerous as this would be allowed along a parade route. Officals were not using common sense in this case. Leave this type of stunt on the race course where it belongs. And to the people who responded to the article, you really need to read it before commenting. This did not happen at the track, it happened along a parade route.

How stupid can people be, be standing near a car doing a burnout. No one stands beside them at the drag strip, wonder why???

This is sad. Many times people have meant well and trouble happens. Will that stop me from continuing to try to do good? No it will not. Victims include the driver as well as the dead. Would that I would be dead then the driver who is no doubt a careing man a loving man giving of himself what he could to raise funds for children. How do you live with that? It may be easier to be dead.

For those who may not know, a burnout is usually done by pouring a liquid under the back tires of a dragster to make them slippery, then the driver guns the engine to make the rear tires spin very fast and produce smoke. obviously if the tires grab the pavement the car will rocket forward! This was a stunt that should not have been performed off a racetrack.

The public's infatuation with big toys and juvenile, senseless acts (e.g.,spinning a car's tires to make them heat up and smoke--"burnout") daily brings tragedies.

I just hope that there will be a full investigation and that if there is a blame to be placed that the families of the victims will be satisfied with the result. But, also I hope that this does not dampen what seems to be an organization that really tries to raise money for a good cause. Let's hope that the organizers of the event learn a lesson and that they can still continue in the future to raise money, but in a safe environment. Unfortunate as it is, accidents do happen.

Sounds like someone's brains are "burned out" to do a stupid stunt like this.

They could have done this at a track with the safer barrier and fence like they do in NASCAR. But I state the obvious.

Never mind the conditions in which this crazy person, Troy Critchley, was driving his car. To perform burnout in an area which is full of people, which includes children and adults, is a stunt which only a crazy person would do. Knowing that burnout could cause the car to run away should be enough hint not to do it. I do not care about any comebacks about this and that. The simple truth is that this person did it, and in the process killed and harmed people. Drugs, drinking and God only knows what less, this nut case of a drive was into, caused this and that is all there is to it.

Pray tell, was alcohol (other than possibly in the fuel tank) involved here? Who made the moronic decision to allow this!(If nothing else, were they at least using bleach on the road for the burnout, as is the "normal" way of doing track burnouts - at a "normal" track, with "normal" people deciding that spectators stay FAR AWAY from the activity?)

It's always men and their toys. They have no concept of what may happen, only that it's cool to do it.
