I am so surprised about the extreme measures smart black people all around our land went to in order to make Obama our nations President! It was out of our control really as a white race because although for example if Colin Powell was the next President...I would be so thrilled as a white person..I mean it...thrilled...He would have gotten my vote before McCain because He is clearly a dedicated, honorable American through and through. I just like him and his patriotism and I don't care what his skin color is!
But Obama? Did any of you do your homework...clearly all you saw was skin color...forget the fact that he's not actually 100% anything. He has no experience and he said so himself truth be told. Even he was totally amazed, even shocked, and in awe, with disbelief that he rose right up quickly to celebrity status! And being human who wouldn't want to capitalize on it?
The reality is that he couldn't afford to express any of his earlier feelings of doubt about himself, about being to "new and inexperienced" I bet he said to himself...Wow..OK...it's time to campaign and get elected.
Clearly this was just like the story of the Emporers New Clothes...everyone, white, black, yellow, red, everyone saw this guy as someone he wasn't at all, they saw his wonderul clothes that just were not there at all, he wasn't in the Senate long enough and that is the truth!
The media was very helpful however painting this picture too and I am sorry to point out that journalist today are just a huge disappointment...no one sticks their neck out anymore to report the truth..no one!
I'll say it again, Colin Powell would have made me proud and I would have trusted his leadership in my sleep!
And yes, Colin Powell did eventually support Obama but it took him a long time, two weeks ago actually. He must've flipped around this decision over and over in his head and to be honest probably kicked himself for not running on a ticket too seeing how well Obama was doing...because he would have made one awesome President!
Eventually, he lined himself with Obama because maybe he thinks that Obama needs to be guided and reigned in a little bit...he has to be smart and he loves the USA so much, that is totally evident by his wonderful service to our great nation.
So I guess we need to allow our black brothers and sisters to rejoice and be glad. I do understand the happiness and when I see it on their faces it is sort of bitter sweet for me. On one hand I want them to be happy but I also fear that they voted for the color of his skin (most of them) and that is just soooo wrong...the substance of the person is the most important thing and Obama has too many questionable issues...he has two gorgeous little girls...which makes me feel better about his world view...he's got to love them very much and want the best for them, but he needs to stay away from evil people who want to destroy our land and our society and our culture and if we do get attacked as Biden suggested...no one in America is free from the fall out. All we can do is pray!

You're sure placing a lot of faith in this guy. I think people have placed way too much emphasis on his skin color and not enough on his actual policies. First time voters are a total joke to those of us who studied the issues.
He's already toning down his overblown rhetoric trying to ratchet down expectations. His biggest problem is going to be that he totally oversold a gullible public during the campaign.
At the end of the day the government can't save you, but it can enslave you.
"The government can't save you." So I suppose you'd call the "free market" if your house was on fire.

Thank God we will no longer have to hear all of the anger and vitriol against whites for denying opportunities to Blacks. That argument is dead. You got what you wanted, so the scapegoating and lame excuses about racial bias and being denied your due are meritless and pathetic. Just get on with your lives and stop blaming everyone who is "different" from you. Every ethnic group has had challenges to overcome.

I am glad that there are still people alive that lived through segregation and were truly held back by their own government were able to see this happen. Last night must have been a truly awesome experience.
However, the younger generation that sits by today claiming they are being held back now are going to be completely disappointed when they find out that this is not going to change much for them and that rules still apply. I'm not saying the past is wiped clean and racism no longer exists because of this election, but there is an air of "it's all gonna change when Obama gets in office" and this thought that everything is going to be peaches and cream from now on. Those people are going to be very disappointed.

Yes. It should be "So are both of my parents."

And were either of your parents white? Obama's mother was. He's bi-racial.

I'm not at all happy with a Muslim in the White House. I guess he'll be ripping out the Rose Garden and replacing it with a watermellon patch.

people lets be clear barrack IS! the first black president. the term black is a ethnic term that includes biracial and mullottoes you( can be latino and be black), after slavery and its policies which included the rapes of many untolds number of black women!, just about all people with african blood in this country are mixed with something.(hell! according to that age old pesky one drop rule he would be seen as black even if he did not want to be called black.) there is nothing wrong with black people being proud and nothing wrong with whites being supporttive because even white americans are a mix of different european blood. The mix is what makes us americans. why is there so much hatred about this? george bush leadership almost broke america in pieces lets give obama a chance to fix georges mess!!!!!

I just wanted to clarify this statement for those who could not get around it. By every other black person, I mean that there are many bi-racial people, not that every black person is mixed or bi-racial. By both of my parents, I mean that my mother's father is White, her mother Black. My fathers mother is white, his father is both black and white.
