A 'bar' cannot produce anything, it is an inanimate object. People with no self control 'produce' crime. Put the responsibility in the correct place. And big daddy "York City' is not responsible for this. Go to Communist China or Venezuela if you want government to solve all your problems and watch over every little facet of your existence.
Maybe instead of using the word produce he should have used facilitate.

Two truisms.
1) Bars make money selling booze. The more booze the sell the more money they make.
2) The more booze people drink they more they get f'd up. The more they get f'd up the more problems they cause.

Finally the city doing their job correctly. At least we will have a business within city limits that will generate tax revenue. Instead of the city always worrying about stupid things. Morality has no place in business. A city or government should be run like a business. The owner of this establishment is opening it to make money & earn an income. No matter what type of establishment it is, there are going to be problems around it. It's not his fault that the zoning commission has not changed the zoning laws in that neighborhood to disallow a bar or resturaunt. Go petition the zoning board if you dont like it! PERIOD!!!

Furthermore, Toni smith is too old to be on the council period. She may have meant well or mean well, but her idea of running the city is outdated and blinded by her age. Go have another drink Toni. Toni, you should be a shamed for voting against someone trying to open a business and make tax revenue for the city. Thats not your job as a councilwoman to declare what type of business he is running. If its legal and within the constraints of the law, thats his business. Your job was to vote on the transfer of the license from one business to another period. The current licensee had no prior convictions or nussiance or crime against them.

As far as Nixon, your opinion does not matter when it comes to law, you actually did your job correctly sir. Law is cut n dry and has no emotion or opinion in it.
Kubos as well to the other 3 council people who voted YES.

The council had no right to deny the transfer of the license to the new licensee. The property was decaying and not making any tax revenue. Whether sales or property or use tax. The LCB should be happy, they just made more money to by this.

Toni should be ashamed for her comments. This is a woman were talking about is drunk half the time herself. Just because she wont frequent the location, gives her no right to condemn it from its on set. new ownership, sometimes all it takes to change a place.

What everyone keeps saying about the old Jackson Pub, can be said about Deagans.(how many people get robbed near there shot at arrested?)Spring Garden, Bottoms up? NV when its open. Cheers Has changed ownership 2 times and they made the place teh same way Hell it may be even worse now being called pandora's box. What about Norms? Gus's? George's Tavern? Allison's Resturuant?
Exactly, you can say this about all these places. We're they ever shut down for nusiance? no, they turn tax revenue & pay their taxes.(yes all these places are within city limits)

Next what about the breaks city council gave to the guy who opened the hardware bars downtown? yeah he made his $$$ and bounced left the city high & dry with empty buildings turning no profit, because they gave him all those tax breaks on the properties. People act like maewyns don't have problems, they have bouncers. Cooblestones has problems, Faloons has problems, Waterway has problems with crime all around it.

Let the man have his license, let him open his business. If its zoned for him to open it there, so be it. If the zoing commission wants to change that let them do that. until then shut the hell up. The council actually did its job right.

If you want to worry about a liqour license transfer what about Banana Max's license? That people is in the city of York. There was no uproar there. Thats right, cause the paper didnt cover it extensively like they are a hood bar, because that owner is white. they have more issues at that place since it opened Jan 1st than anything. THey have like 2-4 cop cars outside that place every Friday & Saturday night. Including the Denny's that pays to have a dressed cop inside the resturaunt. Pathetic.

So whine about that will you.

jeremy, you need to get your facts together because the man who does want his license does have prior convictions....i think you should do a little more investigating before you go talking about someone you probably don't know.
