another example of the ineptitude of the YCC. Again, someone will DIE because of them

It probably will not be corrected until someone loses a life.

A caller under major stress who speaks English as a second language is apparently not expected to call 911 in York County.

Proper prior planning prevents poor performance.

I don't see any reason to blame the dispatcher. Haven't you gotten a call from somebody spanish and can't understand what they are saying. Instead of teaching SPANISH, we need to teach ENGLISH. I get numereous calls from Diabetic companies and I can't understand a word the spanish speaking person saying. I'm not aganinst spanish people just please learn our language. After all this is the US and my german ancestors learned to speak English as soon they came over.
Thank you

I could not agree with you more. This has been one of my peeves for a very long time.if they are going to live in our country, they should have to speak our language.Plain and simple!!!!!I also have nothing against spanish people. But they need to learn the english language first...

I agree that everyone who comes to the US needs to learn English,

Many people from various countries come here and learn English but never loose their accent. Add a stressful situtation and many will automatically return to their native tongue.

As for Me Needa some Water mon; San Juan is part of the US.

As for the dispatcher, if that person thought is was Water St in Wrightsville then why ask York Township? I know several Spanish speaking people and Wallace sounds nothing like Water.

Is this Carl Linquist the same one who was a reporter for the paper?

Yet another reason not to ditch your landline. This wouldn't have happened had the caller called 911 on a landline--the address, jurisdiction, and phone number would have appeared for the operator and would have clarified any misunderstandings with what the caller was saying. The caller kept agreeing with the operator because of a language barrier. I don't blame the operator at all. She confirmed what she thought she heard with the caller, and the caller agreed with her. LISTEN TO THE TAPE. I will never shut down my landline. Works when power goes out, always on, no dropped calls, reliable service for 30 years, and if my loved ones can't speak and need to get help, the 911 operators will at least have my address.

Having "call takers" in addition to dispatchers is going to prove a fatal mistake.

"Do you need fire, police, or ambulance?" should be the ONLY question.

All this is coming from a Chief that doesn't care about response time, if it were up to him the Fire Station closest to the houses that burned would be closed. The best thing for the City Fire Dept is get rid of him it would save the City about $80,000. Dispatcher don't feel bad he throws his own guys under the bus.

The Dispatcher did her job. If you get bad information from the caller, you get a bad result.
If the caller is not informed, then it's "stupid is, as stupid does".

Maybe they should change the bars they go to for there 6-Pack runs to include the bars in that area , like Jackie-Bs or the Triangle or Cheers , before that whole area of the City burns down .
If they did that they could see the Smoke and then just go to the smoke .

Clean the wax out of your ears and listen to what he says, not what you want to hear! Bad about the fire but if the caller can't speak English when they get excited, what is 911 to do? Actions have consequences, plain and simple.
