Vigil highlights need for immigration reform

There are 27 comments on the Workday Minnesota story from Apr 16, 2007, titled Vigil highlights need for immigration reform. In it, Workday Minnesota reports that:

“However, it's a hopeful situation because we really have a caring community. Everybody's worried about the kids (of those detained). Everybody's asking the questions.”

Twin Cities and Willmar residents gathered Sunday evening for a candlelight vigil to appeal for something sorely lacking in the broken U.S. immigration system compassion. via Workday Minnesota

the only thing stoppng I.C.E. from nabbing the rest of them is that damn anchor baby law. as far as im concerned the families should'nt be split up either they should all be deported!
they knew this could happen someday and they made a deliberate decision to stay and take thier chances in spite of being here illegally!
if they really want stay together they can. IN MEXICO!

At least 12 of those arrested had warrents out on them for being sexual predetors. I do not believe these are the poor frindly illegals some make them out to be. And who is paying the lawyers for the lawsuit stating that racial profilings was used? What a hoot!

The lawsuit is about warrantless entry and detaining people based upon a racial profile. Just because ICE is looking for some criminal illegal immigrants does not mean they can enter anyone's home without a warrant or probable cause, or stop law abiding Hispanic people in public and ask for ID.

Some of the plaintiffs are U.S. citizens and legal immigrants who were doing absolutely nothing wrong, but were scared out of their wits by heavily armed ICE agents entering their homes, handcuffing them in front of their young children, etc.

One citizen was doing nothing more than driving his car when he was surrounded by heavily armed ICE agents and questioned for thirty minutes until he could convince them he was a citizen.

They had probable cause, and next I hope they check all employers in your area, for they are just as guilty as the Illegals. On the other hand, if you want drug running child molestors in Willmar, you must be an share holder of the meat packing plant, or Green giant, HO HO HO.

I would like to think that Minnesota is going to enforce a FEDERAL LAW, but I think it might be a smoke screen. 12 of those arrested by Winona were child molestors, many had drug warrents, so maby they wanted to get them off the streets before they made bad press for the rest. Too many in Minnesota think of these law breakers like they are run away slaves that they must hide and protect. In reality, they are drug runners, gang members, and free loaders who will use up every bit of good will in Minnesota, and then protest, when we protest them being here. The politico's just dig the hole deeper and deeper. But then again, it is alot easier being nice to people with others {taxes} peoples money. If you break one law, you will not follow others to hide your status {drivers lic., car insurance, fake soc.sec. #'s, drugs, housing codes, taxes,etc.}.

ICE was doing the job we pay them too ,which is to weed out illegals by any means neccessary.

We don't pay ICE to break our laws, we pay them to arrest law breakers while also respecting the law themselves. Invading people's homes without a warrant, probable cause, solely based on a racial profile is very un-American.

Kelly, there is no law allowing illegal immigrant parents of citizens to stay. Immigration judges, at their own discretion, sometimes allow one parent to stay if a child has a lot of health problems, etc. Usually parents of illegal immigrants are all deported. You've been reading a lot of misinformation put out by the xenophobe lobby.

They did have a general warrant and the probable cause was there was a fugitive alien living at that address. No racial profiling - racial profiling happens when they pick an address at random because it is a particular race. These people were fugitives and others were checked at the same time.

Well you got to crack a few shells to get to the nuts. Point is if the law breakers would have came here legally to begin with this would'nt be neccessary. Why not sue all these illegals and our government for being the cause of the racial profiling instead of the people doing the job we pay them to do ,big picture here. Besides read Davids post they had a warrant.

Well, at least in the case of the U.S. citizens and LEGAL immigrants whose homes were invaded, there were no fugitives living at the address, and there were no search warrants to enter these homes. That's why they're suing.

We have white citizens who are child molestor fugitives with outstanding warrants. Can I "crack a few shells to get to the nuts" by invading your home without a warrant, and handcuffing you in front of young children until you can PROVE you're not a child molestor? Over 80% of Hispanics are either citizens or lawfully present, so your profile is wrong 80+% of the time. Why should law abiding Hispanics be forced to overcome the assumption they're not illegal immigrants. Most have absolutely nothing to do with illegal immigration, so why punish them?

There was 80%, but we don't need to quibble about numbers. The protect by the legal residents of the illegal ones lead to their inspection and at one time there were illegal aliens living at that residence.

I meant to say that there was much lower than 80% - Illegal aliens protected by legal ones. I reread the article and it did not state anything you stated which leads me to believe that you are making up the numbers for sympathy.

Yes sir they can come handcuff me if it narrows down the search of the sick a s child molesters. Unlike those who are aiding and abbeting I have nothing to hide or get mad about do I? What if it were white people that they shook down ,do you think it would such an issue then?
Only stories pertaining to illegals make the news these days ,and of those most are to hide the real truth. Like steve said I read the story and seen nothing of the numbers you posted ,sympathy?

What our Country needs is a Person who is like General president Eisenhower in office as President.

Remember What Eisenhower did when it came to this TYPE OF SISTUATION.

He called it operation wetback.
He had the ILLEGALS rounded up & DEPORTED THEM BACK TO THEIR OWN COUNTRY.
