I really wish churches did not charge people to go to events they have.I grew up going to churches where every one was welcome, rich or poor.we could all go to the christmas programs, easter programs and special singing events. Now you have to have big money to attend these events at this church.many people who would like to attend with children cant because they dont have the money to pay to get in.THIS IS WRONG PLANE AND SIMPLE.Every one should be welcome, there are many children who dont get to see things like this because churches now charge to go Shame on you big churches I thought a church was for every one not just the rich. What happened?

The religious right happened. Religion is big business. If I was going to start a business, having it be tax-exempt would be mighty tempting.

This church takes in over half a million dollars every week end, that is why I think people should not have to pay to go to every thing they have.If there is a dinner or something going on that is one thing, but to have to pay to see seasonial events is not right.I guess for some religion is a business, how ever jesus did wreck the temple because they had turned it into a buisness place.

I want to let you know that although the church takes in a large amount of money....they give away an even larger portion. The church not only uses money to fund local missions/churches/needy and global missions/churches/needy...they also fund a lot of regular programs for all ages that are absolutely free. Things aren't always how they appear.

and I think that's great that they fund missions, the needy and what not. But charging admission for church functions is ok with you?

Not all churches are like that. There are still some great churches out there, but the large megachurches have to charge admission because they have to pay for their building, utilities and all the pastor's salary. :(

How, exactly, does that work?

they don't charge admission to go to church...and most church functions they don't charge at all or just charge very little to cover the costs. And not all megachurches (or churches for that matter) are the same. I agree there are some WACKY out there churches and pastors, etc but you can't generalize like that and lump them all together.

...and money is NOT the root of all evil...it's the LOVE for money. ;)

Which church functions are you talking about anyway? There's only a very select few each year that are more than just a couple/few dollars...one being the east pagent/passion....which even charging what they have they still lose money on it. Actually they're not doing the easter thing this year either. And regardless if someone wants to go to something like that with their family is unable to afford it all they have to do is ask...a lot of the time they'll let people in for free.

oh and the pastor's salaries are capped...they don't get paid what you'd think...not at all.

Anyhoo...no church is perfect and no person is perfect...but it's not all bad either.:)

A distinction without a difference, in this case. Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying that SEC isn't modest, or anything...

so because they like to do a good job and go the extra mile on everything...because they like to be professional....they love money? I just don't understand why people can be so quick to judge.:( And like I said...they're not perfect by any means...but they have good intentions of that I have no doubt. yeah it can seem ridiculously large and I'm not sure how I feel about having a coffee shop there. Oh well...I don't think it would matter how they do things...either way they'd be getting judged and that's just how it is I suppose.

their financial profile is public by the way...might find it interesting.

http://www.ecfa.org/MemberProfile.aspx...

82% of the money they take in goes right back out for programs and stuff. When they charge for things they don't make a profit...and they don't even usually cover the cost to put the event on. Anyway.

I thought about this topic and my stance on it today and decided it was unfair of me to make comments and speculate on a church I've never attended. That being said, I've decided to visit Southeast Christian Church because 1. of my aforementioned realization 2. it's so darn huge! 3. I like rollercoasters. Ok, just kidding with that last comment, but I heard members have renamed it Six Flags Over Jesus sooo....

Yes, they're terribly impoverished. Just look at that shack they call a church. I guess that's all they can afford...

Not a Fan - it doesn't matter how much information you give (especially the facts) some people will continually knock down and critize any thing that is related to God or church.
I listen to SEC each morning on my way to work, Love it!!!
I have been one of the Christmas productions there, Love it!!
It does cost a lot of money to do some of the major functions that SEC does.
All we can do is to keep praying for the souls that want to suck t he life out of anything that is good.

With all the money these megachurches get in donations and all of the outreach programs they have, these neighborhoods should not be in so much disarray! Seriously, what is SEC doing for their community, SPECIFICALLY??

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Taurus

Try to keep your energy a little bit more under control. If you scatter in all directions, you'll end up hot and bothered. Mars tends to rev up your engine, but an awkward aspect to Saturn will make everything go in stops and starts. As soon as you try to shift into higher gear you meet immovable objects at the moment, so the solution is to slow down. There are wonderful, uplifting influences hanging around as well as tricky ones, so just hang in there.
