According to the Southtown, charges are pending against Patrick Bruce, the driver of the black SUV. The Southtown says he's a firefighter in both Orland Park and Crestwood. Interestingly, a Patrick Bruce is named as the assistant fire chief in Crestwood in several Southtown articles from 2011.

If it was an accident, why should he rot in a cell? That's a bit harsh. It's not likely that he did it on purpose.

Southtown updated - says the charges are felony reckless homicide. I think you'll find strong reactions to something like that, poster above.

I wonder how the person in the third vehicle is doing - his Hummer was simply destroyed. I can't find an update on his injuries. Hoping for the best and praying for the family of the deceased.

Don't want to see him get off easy because he knows people from being a fireman.

Why the reckless homicide charge but no DUI? What was reckless and what makes it more than just a tragic accident? The photos of the scene and the debri still there tells of a major impact, which would indicate high speed, but that in of itself is not a reckless homicide charge. Perhaps a blood draw was done and they are waiting for the results, which would imply they had reason to believe he was DUI , thus the reckless charge. I guess we will find out when he's in court.

Accidents are called accidents because that is what they are. He didn't intend to get in one and have a person killed. There are more things out there that are being done than this. Praying for the right outcome for those involved.

Likewise, felony reckless homicide is called felony reckless homicide because that's what it is. No one said premeditation was part of what happened.

Lets see how this one plays out. It's going to be a good comparison to the kid that was drunk and killed his girlfriend on 147 th & oak park a few years back.
