We are being ripped off

Romeoville, IL

#1 Apr 7, 2013
Okay I was out and about yesterday and noticed the price gouging we are taking here in town on gas. It was $3.85 all over Romeoville. Went out towards Fox valley and it was from $3.63 to $3.69. Yes we have an extra tax on it from the village how ever so does that area. So buy gas else wheres till the price gets at least near other areas.

You're absolutely right.

Let's all boycott a viable tax revenue source.

That will surely keep the village running in the black.

You must never get out of area much....this has always been and always will be. First , it's not an added tax from Village ( what's your research on that ?). It's called a fair market economy. Sometimes prices differ due to different counties but mostly , it's how high of a price will a market except without turning customers away ? If you got out of area more often you'd have seen that this area , a lot of the time , has lower prices on gas. It has just been lately that the other surrounding areas are a bit lower than Romoeoville. When looking at price , also , remember that gas stations near I55 are most often the highest because they have the customer travelling and that customer doesn't have much choice. Please don't just say things to say things ( village causing high prices ). We have enough out of Team McMichael spreading lies....we don't need add to that train wreck !

Before anyone "blasts" me for above post.....I know Romeoville and other Communities have gas taxes. My point is that Romeoville has nothing "special" to create a drastic difference in gas cost between here and nearby Communities. Pricing has more to do with profit margin and if a gas company wants to make more money they can add their profit to cost of gas and taxes. It's the same in any business....Ultra in Joliet has cheaper prices than Jewel or Dominick's in Romeoville but it's not totally because they're in Joliet. It's because they use a lower profit margin to price items in their store.

Gas prices can sometimes adjust by the tanker load ...that might be why the difference. Gas in Will county almost Always cheaper than Dupage county and others. Circle back and see if they are that different today bet its a lot closer.

Yes the village raised the tax on fuel. Done deal. Ric you must be John Noak. You defend eeverything and put a spin on it. I am not voting for any of his trustees. I am voting for new blood. In the next election I will vote for new blood again. Watch the debate and tell me who did the best? We have to stop doing what everyone else is doing. The Mayor race became a huge joke. On our village looks terrible. I get it McMichael please stop littering my town with so many signs. Really did you buy too many? One house had 7 signs in the yard.

The OP stated that the taxes were not just in Romeoville, he/she stated that the other area also has the same tax. I can see where the OP is coming from. either way we are paying more here in Romeoville for gas than the surrounding area. The prices on both sides of town are still higher than the surrounding area. Heck when the New Lennox mayor a few months back called for a boycott of buying gas in their city within a few weeks their prices reflected the prices of their surronding area. This has nothing to do with this election it is just us Romeoville residents getting the shaft. I travel for a living all over the area and Romeoville is always higher than the surrounding areas. So I also say fill up else wheres till their prices get in line with the surrounding areas.

To higher taxes...
No I'm not John Noak and I sign my real name because , at least for me , not worth "voicing " an opinion without putting my name on it. I really wonder if people would say the same thing , if they used real name. I know that no one can please everyone so I just try to deal with things like gas prices , taxes , etc. I know that some things don't benefit me and some things do....that's life .I , also , drive to different places for work and I have paid as much as 55cents less a gallon.....my windfall . If gas is high here I just wait until I'm somewhere else....but if I need gas in Romeoville , I don't fill the tank. Life is a give and take. These are my opinions. Maybe I do "spin" things towards something good but life is too short !

The taxes on gas here are no different than most of the communities in the area. It is nonsense to try and point at the village. The village taxe is by far the smallest portion of the fuel cost. In fact it is less than 1% of the total bill. The State however is FAR FAR MORE it is 18 cents base plus another 6.5% on top of that. The Feds are another 18 cents. Stop trying to point at a tax that has no bearing at all on the difference in price.

As was stated the tax is not an issue as most areas around us have the same tax. To Rick B. I travel all over the surrounding areas daily. In a typical day I will put on an average of 175 miles. So yes I do see the prices that are in all the areas around Romeoville. Still Romeoville prices are still higher than most all the areas around it. Just the residents of Romeoville being ripped off. Open your eyes it is very clear.

Well said ,the taxes are not the reason we pay more for gas in Romeoville, most surrounding communities have the same taxes as we do. The proximity of our town to I-55 encourages the fuel vendor to charge what the market will bear and so they whack us in the process of whacking the interstate traveler who has to stop for fuel during thier travels. So as was suggested in an earlier post, don't fill up here, pump enough to get down the road until the vendor feels the pinch.

Your complaint is with owners/ operators of the gas stations.....Romeoville can't prevent these people from taking a bigger profit. Romeoville is so close to Crest Hill ( usually a lower price ) Weber Road and Renwick.....just go there when it and around Romeoville. It's hurts our tax revenue , but you got to do what you got to do !

Please provide the date of the Village Board meeting or the ordinance number which raised this gas tax. I cannot find it, can you?

Yes it may hurt our tax revenue but if we send a message to the owners/operators that we are tired of being ripped off than in the long run it will help it. As more will then but gas here.

Agreed that we have been taken to the cleaners for way to long of a time. I am all for this. I haven't got gas other than enough for the lawn mower in Romeoville for a while. Heck if more do it and we get the word out right things may happen like the money town of New Lenox.

You sir are either a gas station owner or are sleeping with one, which is it?
Neither, just someone who can face reality. Sometimes things are just what they are...taxes whether federal , state or local are not something I can change . Life too short to worry about "stuff" I have no control over ! It's your decision ( everyone's really ) as to where you buy gas and how much you wish to pay .
