On March 1st. I had a roommate & her daughter move in. BIG MISTAKE!
By the end of the month, I gave her a written notice that she had to leave by the end of April. The police have been called to my house on more than one occasion. I went to the courts to get an eviction filed. They told me I had to wait until May 1st. if she refuses to leave.(SHE ALREADY TOLD ME NOT UNTIL JUNE)Things are happening at the house, like mail fraud, investigators pounding on my door and neighbors inquiring about her, things missing, you name it. So here's my question:How can I get her out by April 30th? She's going to fight me on it due to her daughter finishes the school yr. I don't have $200.00 to file the eviction forms. Please help!

No idea unless you can find some pro bono legal help, except to put everything of value into your bedroom and put several locks on the door. Ask trusted friends/family to hold your larger electronics, keepsakes, etc. Call legal aid, get all police reports, maybe crminal history, etc to back up your claims...and your fear for your own safety. If she is really bad, change your locks on the house. Better safe than sorry, you can fight the inevitable lawsuit later. Oh..maybe go to the police every time something is missing. If drugs are involved, there is danger, too. Keep a ledger..call around everywhere for help.

Oh..if the courts said she has to GO by May 1st, get your legal papers, copy of thirty day notice togeather and ask police to watch her take her stuff, not yours, out and then immediately change all locks...which youre going to have to do soon as she is out anyway, ortherwise shell just come back and rob you. You can change door locks yourself, maybe get someone to add bolt locks for you too.

Thank you lrt. The court said if she refuses to leave on the 1st. of May, then I have to file for the eviction papers.$$$ The cops told me there is nothing they can do without them unless there is battery of proof of drugs. I know she's strung out on them, but I have no proof. I do however have proof she's scamming welfare! But again, the police said that's out of their hands and for me to contact the welfare dept. As far as the mail fraud taking place,..you guessed it, that to is out of the police's hands. For that I contact the Illinois Post office. UNBELIEVABLE! I feel like she has more rights in my house than I do.

I had the same problem a few years back. I wish you luck! I know how hard it is to be in your situation. I learned to never take anyone in again. I called the cops and reported him for stealing, they came, but couldn't do anything because there was no proof. Luckily, he committed prescription fraud, and got arrested. After he got out, we had the locks changed and never let him back in. We even put all his stuff outside for him to pick up. The court house was of no help at all!!! He even stole money ($100) out of my five year old daughters piggy bank, that was in her dresser drawer! I wish you the best.

All sympathy and so sorry nothing to add. If you know she is as you say, strung out on something...pleasr please protect yourself firstly....put a boltlock on the insife of your bedroom door and use it!! always. Get every piece of jewelry into a safety deposit box...a small one is about $40.00 a year. Put all your financial info, ss#, everything you can, in there too. Never let your purse outside your locked bedroom. A coupe checks out the back of your checkbook might not be noticed right away, nor a missing credit/debit card. Contact legal aid now so you are ready come May 1st. Oh...get a post office box so you are not next on fraud list. All inconvient, but safer. Good luck.

The courts usually side on for the renter, unless extreme circumstances can be proven. Should have checked this person out more completely before allowing them in your house. For about $50.00 you could have done a background and credit check. Now it will cost you hundreds. Don't change the locks before the lease is up--you can pay dearly. Courts don't allow that unless, again, you can PROVE you are in danger. You'll just have to deal with it and safeguard all that you can until May 1st or whenever their lease is up. Next time, be more careful who you let in your home and do your homework.

Grrrrrr is right....one of my posts did suggest you change locks prematurely...and that was wrong. I was thinking of your personal safety and overreacted.
Please do consider the other suggestions though...bedroom locks, secureing personal/financial info, p.o. box as the mail delivers, thru bills and credit card bills particularly, and offers of same, bank statements, med bills enough info to take your identity. Removiing anything of personal worth,i.e. jewelry, antiques..will safeguard those items from theft. Druggiesthieveswill sell your dang toaster, Hon, they wont be shy about lifting a piece of jewelry..or going thru ypur underwear drawer to find it.

That's a shame. Goes to show that you never really know a person. Good luck to you.

She's still here. I filed with the courts to get her evicted. I go on the 15th. Things are not any better. Now she's treating my house like her own personal slop place. No matter what I say, she acts like it's her house. She even shorted me money on my rent due to the fact I locked some things up. How is it, that a tenant has more rights than the homeowner? We need new laws.

These laws are put into place for a reason. It is sad that you got stuck with such a low life but if we change laws jut because if ones personal experience than we would have laws changed every second. Deal with it, pee in her mouth while she is sleeping.

The phone co. won't let me have a print out. Something about privacy laws. I keep running into brick walls! Seriously, she has more fricken rights than I do. It's unbelievable! Court in 2 days! I'll post afterwords. Wish me luck!

If that doesn't work, you can always stop washing. You can start complaining about the s3xually transmitted disease you can't seem to get rid of, and how on top of that you think you might have a bad case of crabs (itch a few times for added effect). Then insist on washing your intimate clothes together in the washer. LOL
