Judged: 5 4 3 http://bolingbrookmayor.com/ Local Hero's Save the Day We have all heard about local bank robberies that have been going on around our town and surrounding towns. Some of the residents did not realize how bad this robber had become and how dangerous he was. It made some of us worry about going into a bank, but as of Friday we would have had to worry about going groceries, when the US Bank in Meyers on Boughton and Weber was hit with this dangerous gun toating robber. Around 7:45pm Police were called to the scene of the robbery. Bolingbrook police pursued the suspect through several jurisdictions for about 25 miles. Hot on the first lead since the FBI announced their role into the robberies, the Bolingbrook PD and dispatch team stepped up to save our lives. The man was caught and is now behind bars. Thank you to the brave men and women on the force and in dispatch during these hours that did whatever it took to rid this dangerous man off our streets. They risked their lives to try to stop him and to follow him. Now these hero's deserve the honor of our gratitude for making our banks and grocery stores safe again. We wish words could express how deep we feel when we say "Thank you"! ---- http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/imbeci... im·be·cile–noun 1. I have to wonder, where do they get their information from? If they can't spell or get simple facts correct, how do they expect anyone to believe ANYTHING that they have to say/print? |

Judged: 1 1 1 While it's true that the alternative program is being moved to BHS from Brooks, the students will not be attending classes with the regular student population in the high school. They will still have self-contained classroom in one particular wing of the school. |

Judged: 2 2 2 http://www.bolingbrookreport.com/newsofthewee... Today: Unavailable to comment, the program director Mrs. Lynn Widerstrom and her staff are fighting what the school board has deemed a lost battle. On Monday March 8th, the board of education voted in a 4-3 vote to merge the Phoenix students with those at BHS. The students and parents at neither school where given adequate notice, i.e. other then a small blurb in the local newspaper, that such a dramatic change was to be voted upon. There was no notification sent home from either school, with the students to inform the parents of such an important issue. There were no phones call through the notification system that Bolingbrook uses for so many other important issues. Basically the vote was put through without public input to our elected officials. There was NO apparent due diligence on behalf of the Board of Education to determine public input. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Bolingbrook proves AOL article wrong http://realestate.aol.com/tax-advice/highest-... |htmlws-main-n|dl4|link4|http% 3A%2F%2Frealestate.aol.com%2Ft ax-advice%2Fhighest-and-lowest -property-tax-states AOL has a great article on homeowner taxes (Ran March 17, 2010). It lists the highest and the lowest tax areas by state. We decided to compare this to local values. Looking at the highest in the United States, the number five spot goes to Rhode Island where median Property Tax is $3,932.00 and median home value is $421,300. They pay .93% of their home value, or 4.8% of their income. Number 4 goes to New Hampshire where residents pay 1.55% of their home values or 5.96% of their income. Number 3 is Connecticut at 1.25% of home value or 5.9% of their income. Number 2 is New Jersey at 1.89% of home value or 7.4 % of their income. Number 1 is New York at 1.55% of home value or 8% of their income. Using just one home example in Bolingbrook (Although we checked many and found about the same statistically), the resident paid 2.8% of their home value and 9% of their income. Thus exceeding the statistics as set by AOL as New York being the highest in Property Tax and Percent to Income. What is wrong with this picture? Before you pass judgment, figure you?re own and you will find yours are similar to this residents! ----It appears to me that they are not fully vetting what they are reporting...I would hazard a guess that the individuals who are paying 8-9% of their income in property tax purchased too much house for their income. This is perhaps a necessity in a state such as New York or Conn. with high home prices. However, the home stock in Bolingbrook has a wide range of prices. We bought conservatively and our property tax is only 4.5% of our income. It would be better if they reported stratificaions by home price vs. income ratio and then reported the percent of taxes as a percent of income...that would paint a much different picture rather than just checking "many" (how many? what different income levels?) and reporting it as fact. |

Judged: 2 2 1 The Brook Report had over 50 applications to chose from for local writers. We thank all those that took the time to apply for these positions. We have chosen two new writers to the area and two previous writers from Bolingbrookmayor.com to join our team. We welcome aboard Matthew Michaels who has written in the past for Bolingbrookmayor.com and has devoted over a year of writing to the site as a volunteer. He has helped us during our transitions and will be a great asset to a position within our organization. Many residents have expressed their concern over local coverage and he can assist us with this venture. The other three candidates will be joining over the next two weeks to lauch new stories and more stories for your reading pleasures. Stay tuned as we grow. This summer we will launch our first ever Bolingbrookreport.com local event, where other residents can get together, share stories, talk to the reporters, talk to others about running for office and meet the press! ---------- What they truly need is someone that has a strong knowledge of grammar and commonly misspelled words. Not some flunky who fails to understand the difference between the words "you're" and "your". Case in point: "The Brook Report had over 50 applications to chose from for local writers." |
