I have traveled down the mountain many a times and in that one spot it is very bad for fog. My husband and I were going down one weekend and it was so heavy you couldn't see right in front of you, I took pics of it. It scares me traveling that stretch because people don't take notice to fog warning signs they just fly right by you, so honestly I'm not surprised something like this happened. It is very sad to hear on Easter anyways, but people need to seriously slow down and back off others and take information more seriously. I know people can see fog so why not take precautions. I'm not saying that's the reason just assuming, I do feel for those who lost lives and those who got hurt.

This is very sad. On a possibly related note, I feel like so many large-scale accidents and fatalities could be prevented if trucks had their own highway. Interstates for cars, and a separate one for trucks. If only money grew on trees so that could become a reality. :/

Actually, the interstates are for trucks, but, from early on, passenger cars have been permitted to use these truck routes.

Then build a new one for cars. Or move truck loads onto trains. Easier said than done, of course.

I remember when we had a nasty pile-up on Afton. I think in the early 80's.

We have enough roads , we need the economy moving to keep putting technology on the road.

This Technology from Volvo is simply amazing , if I have to tangle with 53' of truck and To be legal for interstate travel with no extra permits the legal limit is 80,000 lbs. 20,000 lbs on single axles, 34,000 on dual axles. 12,000 on the steer axle.

We need the economy improving and tech hitting the roads.

If this wouldn't make you feel a little safer . I don't know what will around here with the truck traffic.

it was caused by a big truck most likley, ever noticed how big trucks never slow down in fog, rain, snow and ice. a big truck speeding in the fog rear ended a car and caused the pile up.
