If these "christians" are so strong in their faith that it cannot be rocked then why did a tiny billboard showing that other atheists exist bother them so? And yes, atheists are missing something in their lives - freedom FROM religion. Biblethumpers love to shove their beliefs down everyone's throats. God on license plates, god on currency, god in schools, god on tv, god in courtrooms, god in government... Oh, and let me clarify, a christian god, noone else's.

As an atheist, I did not "choose" to become an atheist. Fact is, to be a believer in god you must have blind faith. Not everyone can simply "believe" in god anymore than we can in Santa Claus.

In response to Steve:
As far as...in our constitution, provided freedom and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It took a terrible Civil War, fought by Christian leaders on both sides of the conflict,...
I would have a hard time being proud to be a Christian American knowing that to provide freedom and liberty... the Christians on both sides of this historic conflict took away the land, liberty, religious freedom and pursuit of happiness of the real "Americans", subjecting them to all manner of unusual cruelty and punishment, in the name of salvation. And people like you are the real "vermin", who upon improving the land, destroyed a beautiful country, where God provided everything from meat, to fruit and vegetables, without massive fields, all free for the picking and hunting, for the sake of Christianity and the almighty $$$.
Keep it to yourself, and if you don't like it, get out of my country!
As to that... unless your of American Indian decent... Don't let the door hit you in the as_ on your way out!!

Some of my ancestor came here in the 1630's. Although I'm not a Christian, I do feel guilty. Some owned slaves.

I'm not threatened one bit. They can put up all the anti-God billboards they want as long as they continue using their own money. Why would atheists want to "reach out"? Why would they want to seek fellowship? Perhaps because something is missing in their lives.
The same reason non-Christlike people join churches, to fill the void in their lives.

There is a price for freedom. Anyone can say anything within reason but there may be ramifications. Expect to be criticized by those who disagree. Be prepared to defend your position. To put your message on a billboard and then take it down because of "multiple, significant threats" to the property owner is proof this group is not committed to their cause. While I do not support the message, I support the right of free speech. This means we will not all agree with everything we hear or read. The fact that the United Coalition of Reason is not willing to stand up for their message should tell us all something about their intentions. This has nothing to do with religion, its all about personal liberty and cowardness.
It wasn't and isn't the United Coalition of Reason that was not willing to stand up for their message it was the property owner who requested the sign be removed. Nice try to blame the one who did no wrong instead of the wrong-doers though.

Shut it grandpa--isn't it time for your blood pressure pill and Cialis?
I'm sorry that you have high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction. If you would have been responsible for your own life instead of blaming God for your failures you might be more healthy. Not all of us old fogies have your problems.

The problem here is not God or the lack of belief in him. The problem is the misconstrued message. Some people do not believe, and the only thing the billboard did was say "If you do not believe, there are others like you here." Big deal! I can't believe good Godly Christians would do this.. how sad. What hypocrisy. I believe in God, I would NEVER threaten anyone over a billboard. Whoever did is MISSING THE POINT... God does not want you to be forced to believe in him, and it is obvious that some of his "followers" are completely mis guided and quite UNCHRISTIAN. It makes me sad someone would make threats because the billboard does not match their views. Whoever did is a small person and needs to get right with God.

I'm always completely amazed when 'christians' behave in a compassionate and civilized manner.

Religious dominion is everywhere, everyday, people walk around with crosses around their necks as they abuse the elderly, children and others....they are liars.
One billboard is a problem? If their faith is so strong, what are they so afraid of? A different opinion? Fools. I am tired of Hypocrites.

There are so many human beings, including children alive on this planet right now that suffer more physical torment every three days of any single year of their entire life than "Jesus" would have during crucifixion. That kind of makes the whole "sacrifice" thing especially laughable.

I know this because I have volunteered in nursing homes with severally disabled children. One child had two states, awake, with her muscles in spasm, or totally drugged out and virtually comatose. When awake, the poor child writhed continuously.

I'm skeptical that “threats” have been made--but no more skeptical than those who want proof of God's existence. It sounds like a clever way to promote the billboards.
funny, one would think that posting giant billboards with a message in huge letters in plain sight would promote themselves. Nobody needs to fabricate stories of the overzealous religious right making threats over this sort of thing. The fact far outweighs any fiction that one might care to invent.
