So, these 2 were NOT taken into custody and their firearms were NOT confiscated?
What kind of firearms were used? Was the assailant armed - at all?
Where did they purchase their firearms?
Their names were not released?
How exactly did he force his way in?
Is there credible evidence that there was a imminent threat of grave bodily harm or death (minor injuries, what does that mean?)?
IF so, how is that determined?
PAID Leave??Are you kidding me?
Guess the usual processes don't apply to deputy sheriffs and deputy district attorneys.
I bet if this happened to just a "regular citizen" the outcome would have been very different.

If someone breaks into my home, I will do the same thing. It should not matter if there was "immement threat of grave bodily harm or death". If someone unlawfully enters a residence you can not wait to judge their intentions and determine if they are just a petty thief or a serial rapist/killer.
