Unfair Movie Ratings at IMDB - lawsuit coming

IMDB lawsuit

Denver, CO

#1 Nov 9, 2011
Hundreds of angry filmmakers are getting ready to sue IMDB for their unfair ratings system.
IMDB purposefully places a higher emphasis on those that give the movies a '1' thus bringing down the overall rating.
The median is always higher.
IMDB's rating methods are completely and totally flawed and skewed to favor studio films (their main advertisers) while diminishing the reputation of stellar indie films that have averages in the 3.5 - 6.5 (horrible ratings).
The negative impact of this is:
1) Loss of sales (Blockbuster, Netflix, Redbox, foreign sales, etc)
2) Loss of reputation
3) Loss of visibility
4) Loss of future investors.

This is a very serious matter. If you would like to join in on the upcoming lawsuit or would like to support the filmmakers, please email the group at: [email protected]

Thank you!

A friend who used to work at IMDB, said he knows the ‘secret formula’ on how IMDB ranks movies.

This is the ‘formula’– it’s actually quite simple:

IMDB gives 1 point for anyone who gives any movie a ’10′ (as long as it’s a new IP address); and 2 points for anyone who gives a movie a ’1′.

In IMDB’s view, this prevents ‘ballot stuffing’. However, what IMDB misses and what has infuriated many filmmakers is this: the same ballot stuffing for a ’1′ could occur, too.

Everyone knows there are ‘haters’ as well as ‘loyalists’. The ’1′s could come from competitors, actors who didn’t win the part, disgruntled employees, fired crew members, people who hate the film politically, etc.

This is why you should do an article on IMDB and expose these guys. It’s because the movie ratings can destroy a worthy film.

Netflix will take in only a few copies of a movie that has a rating of ’5′ or less on IMDB.

IMDB must be stopped.

Seriously, why are the studios not suing IMDB? Instead they advertise with them! I've always was suspect over how wonderful films ended up with a 5 rating and horrible films end up with an 8 rating? If there is manipulation from IMDB's staff, this would be the biggest fraud case in entertainment history.

This is HUGE problem, particularly for small shows or shows that don't' have a lot of ratings….a few jealous people will tear down a much higher median rating because imdb skews results. It's happened to us. Tons of work goes into our shows, then a few people who are upset that we haven't put them on the show can alter then entire overall rating with 2 or 3 votes because of the bias rating system.

Lawyers are the reason this civilization is going downhill. Stop leeching off of productive people and go produce something worthwhile for society.
As long as their rating systems are the same for all movies (which certainly seems to be the case), you have literally nothing to complain about. Even if they intentionally manually lowered the ratings for every Indie film, you wouldn't have a standing because no one owns their reputation ! One's reputation is in other people's minds. Claiming a right to one's reputation would be claiming rights over other people's property (their minds). Grow up !
If you don't like IMDb, make another website and compete. Internet is a level playing field (that is until you leeches get involved)!
The only people who would have a standing would be people who have signed a contract with IMDb on the basis that IMDb provides a fair (as described) rating system. If the actual rating system didn't fit the contract's description, these people could sue IMDb for fraud. Now then, you could learn some honest dollars for once, making the case for those people, you status quo whores !
