Yuba College District has some major issues with their trustees. When the Chancellor dictates what they can and cannot say, not ask questions, then vote, problems exist.

Well said concerned. Classic case of the tail wagging the dog. Obviously these trustees have forgotten, or do not care, about their obligation to serve the public and to keep the administrators accountable. It is a shame because the documented behavior of the human resources director is unlikely to change (why should it?), causing the work environment to deteriorate even further. The trustees had a chance to help diffuse the situation but instead chose to shrug their duties by aligning themselves so close to the administration. This will surely come back to bite them. What a waste.

I thought it was all about the students? Why are they ignoring the students and trying to shut them up? Maybe its time for some of these administrators and board members to go! Maybe its time for a fresh start with people who will look out for the students.

103-4??? Has the Board of Trustees of Yuba College ever heard of the saying "the will of the people?" When 103 out of 107 people vote that they have no confidence in an administration member, don't they find that problematic? Sixty-six pages of complaints? I thought these people were educated? This reader sees two basic problems with this situation: 1) the Board of Trustees/administration does not want any accountability and 2) they are overcomplicating a rather straightforward situation. You have an employee who is not working out. This is a common employer/employee occurrence, not rocket science. The human resource director is not a good fit, find someone who is!!

Okay, the 'vote of no confidence' rejected by the Board of Trustees, went 103-4. With that said, we can assume that one of the supporting votes for Alt was cast by himself. My question is who were the three other idiots? Can we get a show of hands?

What seems incomprehensible is the notion that this is a "community" college! Nikki Harrington, the Chancellor is behaving like an Empress, as though Yuba College and the District was her private empire, with the hired thug, Mr. Alt, as her secret police, and the Board...well, comparable to fat landowners who are there to do the bidding of the Empress in exchange for her favors and power of control over the hardworking serfs, the teachers and the students, who have no voice at all in the educational process. This is just insanity! Anyone who would be dumb enough to believe anything the District lawyer says (who, by the way, is doing a LOUSY, absolutely transparent job of defending his Empress and her Board by blaming and threatening the Yuba College Academic Senate for "meddling" in District affairs by voting a "no-confidence" vote against Alt (when it's VERY OBVIOUS TO ANYONE WHO SPEAKS, READS, or UNDERSTANDS the ENGLISH LANGUAGE, that the FACULTY, repeat FACULTY...NOT...repeat, NOT, the Academic Senate that is complaining (with good reasons) the actions and ineptitude of Mr. Alt and the Chancellor Nikki Harrington -- well, you get the picture. Time for a change! We should dump this crooked administration and the inept Board!

Update: June 4, 2012

Al Alt was fired from Yuba College one year after Chancellor Nikki Harringon was forced to retire. It will take YEARS to repair the damage they've done to Yuba College. But at least now, the healing can begin.
