Here we go again another armed robbery of a business in Woodland. When are the police and city goverment going to begin being effective in providing protection? I think the chief of police should set up a program for the business owners to have a city sponsored self protection and concealed carry weapons. The businesses should be trained and allowed to protect themselves, the city and the cops sure as heck are not going to protect them. The more brazen these armed robbers get, the more likely they will begin to shoot people during the robberies. Innocent bystanders and business employees are becoming increasingly in danger, they need to be able to defend and protect themselves.

Too bad these criminals were not lying in the parking lot dead after being blown out the door with a double barrelled shotgun. Maybe then the next low-life, scum bag cowardly, scourge on society thief would think twice before robbing a business in Woodland. Guns do not protect people; loaded guns in the hands of citizens do!

Hey boys so have you all meant you qoutas on writing tickets - I bet you have and then some. FYI I guess the citzens here in Woodland better get guns to take care of ourselves and property.

Your knee-jerk response demonstrates you know little to nothing about crime and the adminsistration of justice in our nation.

Thanks, for nothing!

In Response to "Gulity"

Why blame the chief of police for the 10 years of gang/crime growth?

Would you rather hold the Fire Chief accountable? How about the Librarian?

That fact is that the DA tried to tell our police chief we had a problem in Woodland 2 years ago.

The fact is that our sheriff tried to include Woodland in the largest gang suppression effort in Yolo County history last year and Sullivan’s ego would not admit that “his” city was falling into ruin on his watch.

Now Sullivan has excuses, excuses -- about grant money and funding he might lose if he deferred to a collaborative with the sheriff. That may have applied to Davis, but there isn't a major gang problem in Davis is there?

Excuses. There was a time when Sullivan might have nipped the gang/drug/crime at the onset but he was too busy pretending to be a player in the elite of our community, rather than a humble public servant.

Where was Sullivan?
- On the golf course
- Running for office in a local Rotary (business) Club
- Running Parks and Rec Department for an unjust pay raise

If only he had spent ½ as much time trying to improve the police department’s morale, strength and community oriented policing efforts,(gang info.) maybe the 8 most experienced officers would not have left WPD and their HOME TOWN for LOWER PAID jobs.(Thin about how bed things must have been.)
Maybe the entire police force would not have the lowest morale in history, voting “No Confidence in the Chief” not once but TWICE. OMG!
Want another example of Sullivan’s style of leadership? The latest inside scoop from the WPD is that Sullivan has ordered his PIOs (public information officers) not to release any more information on gang related crimes to the public. Wow. He must think we are really stupid.

Here is my Sullivan spin prediction:

1) Sullivan will keep the mayor, council and city manger invited to gang seminars so they will “feel” like he is looking for a solution rather than hold him accountable for 10 years of incompetence.
2) Sullivan will order 1 or 2 officers to collaborate with the sheriff to give the appearance of interagency collaboration.
3) Sullivan will have a FABULOUS PowerPoint of his dog & pony “strategy” to address crime which he will personally present to his Rotary Club and the Daily Democrat.(Gangs will really fear the powerpoint.)
4) Sullivan will wait one year until his 10% raise gets factored into his permanent retirement formula and slip out the back door.

In the end, our city manager will have to find a police chief with sophistication and experience who will take office and promptly throw out the dog & pony plan.

Why wait? Cut Sullivan’s retirement check now and let’s get a chief that the officers on the street CAN HAVE CONFIDENCE IN!

Dare I say it AGAIN?

What I do suggest is that the cops crack down hard on the gangs and their members. They need to stop being politically correct. When the cops personally deliver the message to each and every gang member and gang wannabe that gang banging is not acceptable on any level the hard core gang bangers will leave town and the wannabes will find another hobby. The city council needs to back up the police and deputies on carrying out a very agressive campaign. When you apply the heat the rats will leave.
The only program going on now is to let the gangs rob us and then hope some one will turn them in. That is not working in our favor.
