Balch Park is a good place to get shot. Don't take your family there it's been turned over to gangbangers who have free reign. Gunshots heard day and night and no police protection. It's a sad commentary on our lawless society and spineless legislators. There was a murder while I was there in late July in broad daylight.
WOW!!!! I was going to take my husband and daughter camping up there during Spring Break!! Thanx for the warning!! We go up there every single year, this realy messes things up.
Soemthing seriously needs to be done with this growing gang matter. Good citizens are paying the price for these nuisances that destroy neighborhoods and lives. Citizens of the state are being annialated right out of here!!! What the hell California? Get with it and get them losers out of here!!! What are we paying taxes for? I'm tired of the state government sitting on their asses and our dollars and letting these types of people get away with everything. Citizens are being unarmed while the criminals are ARMING up...they don't give a damn if their weapons are legal or not!!!! Where is LOU DOBBS when you need him? LOU DOBBS 4 PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!

can anyone tell me when the gates will be opened? I really want to go up there and camp. Let's all pray that the troublemakers will find Jesus and accept Him into their hearts. Then things will be better. God bless you all

Balch Park Campgrounds is A County Park. They have Rangers that patrol. That is why there is a FEE...
The other campgrounds are run by the STATE and are FREE:::: Hendriks Pond, Frazier Mill, Moses Gulch and Hidden Falls.
The problems are arising in the STATE Campgrounds and NOT AT BALCH PARK CAMPGROUND.
Call the State Campgrounds phone number or give information too the County Rangers at Balch Park Campgrounds and they will call it in for you.
There is a PUBLIC PHONE located at the entrance of Balch Park Campgrounds if you need to call the Sheriff.
STOP CONFUSING BALCH PARK WITH THE STATE CAMPGROUNDS...

The stupidity of others does not give them the right to do whatever they want to do. It appears like you need to expand your territory to include other campgrounds that are having problems.

I spoke to the County Ranger at Balch Park this past weekend. He stated that the State is now patrolling the State Campgrounds and have a No- Tolerance Policy. Hopefully this will bring some comfort to those who camp at Frazier Mill, Hendriks Pond, Hidden Falls and Moses Gulch.

THe atmosphere camping at Balch Park Campgrounds was peaceful and enjoyable this past holiday weekend. Many Campers commented on how nice it is too have a family orientated campground to come too. I myself will continue camping at Balch Park Campgrounds many times in the future.

I'm planning on camping up there the week before 4th of July weekend...wondering if there are any suggestions out there about bears.

There are warning about bears being "an occasional problem" and I've never camped anywhere that requires bear boxing my stuff, so I'm a bit nervous.

Been reading all the bear stuff I can but I'm beginning to think my developing paranoia is a bit overkill. Are there likely to be roaming bears at the end of June???

Yes there are Bears at Balch Park Campgrounds. They usually are not a problem, UNLESS someone leaves out an IceChest or Cooking Items. The Rangers ask you to put everything away in your car covered and roll up all windows. They do not have Bear Boxes. Throw all trash away in Brown Trash Dumpsters. The Bears usually come in around the Fish Cleaning Stations after Dark thru early morning to get the scraps left from cleaning fish. There have been no incidents of Bears causing trouble within Balch Park Campgrounds in over 4years. They have come into campsites that people forgot to put things away, but did not harm anyone, the bears just wanted the food. Any questions you may have you can call the Balch Park Campgrounds Phone number which is listed in the Phone book under the city of Springville. I was just up at Balch Park this past weekend and everything was wonderful. They are stocking the ponds weekly and the campground is Family Friendly.

went to Balch Park a week ago and all was well until a huge group of wetbacks rolled in playing their stupid music and screaming and laughing until 2:00 am. The ranger did his best by telling them to keep it down but it didn't get quiet until they passed out. Also why is it that they can't throw dirty diapers in the trash can? This place is so beautiful and lowlife beaners have to come in and destroy it. I was pretty disappointed.

Ended up staying in another campground close by (in Mountain Home State Forest) and had a fabulous time! My kids thought I was a little paranoid with the bear thing, but I don't really care--a little extra precautions can't be a bad thing when your safety (and that of your fellow campers) is the focus.

I find that the best time for me to plan a camping trip is during the week--less riff-raff and more privacy, so we camped June 30th thru yesterday. My kids enjoyed themselves so much that they don't want to scout out any other campgrounds.

The only complaint I have is that NO ONE came by to empty the trashcans. Every single one was packed full before our 4 days of camping was up--and the campground wasn't even close to being full. I think the rangers could do a little better than that.

You stayed in a State Campground. The Rangers at Balch Park Campgrounds DO NOT Patrol or Pick up Garbage anywhere except Balch Park Campgrounds. You can call the State Park(phone number can be gotten from a Ranger at Balch Park Campgrounds) and complain to them. I will pass this info onto who I know and see if anything can be done.

Thanks. I know about the jurisdiction lines and all that--even still, those who DO have jurisdiction aren't doing what I would expect them to do, considering it was the week before a big holiday like 4th of July. As I left, a family was coming in and we talked a bit. They were expecting several other families later that day--the campground was gonna be full very quickly and with no empty trashcans I can't imagine it would be safe for trash to be set out next to the cans. So much for keeping it bearproof.

Although, I will say, since there have been so many complaints about rude, loud and obnoxious campers on this thread, I happily experienced none of that. Even the empty sites were free from garbage and debris. Yay for the previous campers!

Yes Thankfully many Campers are very considerate. I agree, trash should be picked up daily. Unfortunately,The State Doesn't have the resources to pay for this, especially since they DO NOT Charge a Fee to Camp. But this too will soon change. There is word that the State will soon start charging a fee for All the State Run Campgrounds within Mountain Home and have Onsite Camphosts....Hopefully this will sort out the 'riff raff" and trash will not be as big of a problem.

Balch Park Campgrounds has been really busy this year. It typically is filled by Friday night. If you come up on a Thursday you usually won't have a problem getting a campsite. I myself am heading that way in a couple of hours. But I always have a place to stay. My Husband is the Senior Park Ranger. As for the " Riff Raff" There have been no problems within Balch Park Campgrounds this year except maybe loud talking or music at night, but the Rangers Patrol and get them to quiet down. Last Weekend Frazier Mill had problems with underage drinking and rowdiness. Enjoy your stay. I know I will. You can always call Balch Park Campgrounds to find out more information. The number is listed in the phone book city of Springville, Balch Park.

My family and I are planning to go camping soon to Balch Park. After reading all the negative comments about gangs, loud noises, gun shots, etc., I became worried. Its sad to hear such news..it is my favorite place to camp.
Has anyone been to the Balch Park campgrounds lately? Just wanted to know if it was safe and peaceful.

Balch Park Campgrounds is patrolled and everything is good. There have been NO incidents of guns being fired or gang activity within the campgrounds. The worst activity so far is people forgetting to chain the dumpsters and the bears get into them and spread trash.Loud noise is always a problem when drinking is involved. People do not realize voices travel in the further in the night. But the Rangers do their best to get them to quiet down. I totally recommennd camping within Balch Park Campgrounds. People have the misnomer that the whole Mountain is Balch Park...IT IS NOT....the other campgrounds are State. Balch Park is just ONE Campground Run by the County.Happy Camping
