Cab drivers are responsible for the safety of their passengers. If he had a problem with transporting a minor he should have declined. He is charged with endangering a child because he was the ADULT responsible for him at the time. It could have been any child, any time and it wouldn't have mattered if he had special needs or not. He could have taken him home and received payment when he got there. (Which is how the whole cab thing works anyway.) The grandmother should be charged with negligence for putting the child in a cab without money in the first place, although she couldn't have known what a shitbag the cab driver is. You really can't fix stupid in this case...

Definitely the grandmothers fault for sending a 7 year old on a cab alone. Doesn't she know there are all kinds of pedafiles in this world! Let alone a child with special needs! However, the taxi driver should have taken him back to his "careless negligent" grandmother. I feel both if them should be charged with child neglect!

1) Grandmother should not have put a child in a cab by himself, special needs, or otherwise. She should have gone with him. Most cab companies do not do any kind of background check on drivers.

2) When grandmother called the cab company, she should have inquired as to the approximate cost. She should have paid it, when the child was picked up (plus a little over to make sure it was covered).

3) She should have gotten a recite.

4) See number 1.

i agree with all of the above. there is no way i would put a 7yr old in a cab by his self. it's too much going on in this world to do that. what if the cab driver was a child molester or worse a muderer.

I think the cab driver was WRONG. First, he accepted taking the 7yr old to start with. I am sure the grandmother didn't just stick the kid in there without any instructions. Either way, if there was an issue the cab driver has the right to decline. It wasn't that far away from where the grandmother was and perhaps the parents were going to pay for the cab fare when the boy got there. You don't know. No adult should be just dropping any child off anywhere. Why didn't he just finish the route to the destination and if there was no payment then he could call the police himself. He did it ass backwards.

Now I wouldn't send my children off in some cab myself but who are we to judge what they do? I don't think it was neglectful at all but just not a choice I would make.

You should not leave any 7-year old at all. The cab driver should have asked the grandmother how the fare was being handled. You never ask a child because they could be afraid. If he didnt want the fare he should have delivered the child safely to his grandmother or even called the dispatcher to call and see how the fare was going to be paid. He shouldn't have a job at all. And the cab company needs to stop protecting itself. What if that child ended up dead. Do you think that cab driver would be off the hook since he was the last one to be in contact with the child.

Does it matter if the child was special ed or not? Why in the world would you drop a 7 year old baby off by himself regardless of the situation.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that those of you against a 7-yo taking a cab are also against them taking the bus or rapid?

Any adult that would put a child in a public place alone with a total stranger is out of their mind and should absolutely be charged with child endangerment...so that would include the grandmother and the cab driver!!

This is a classic case that demonstratesnitbis still illegal to be a black man in America. The real victim in this case is the cab driver who was in fact looking out for a the child whose Grandmother decided to put him in the cab and walk away. The grandmother said nothing to the driver. She did not give him any instructions, no address, no name, no nothing!!!!! Who does that?!?! The child is not physically disabled. But of course this cab driver is expected to be a Dr. and a mind reader...Somehow he SHOULD have known this was a special needs child when there was nothing to indicate any such circumstance. The real irresponsible, negligent people are the grandmother and mother. If they were so concerned about the welfare of the child in question, they wouldnt put him in a public cab, with a stranger and just walk away. The fact is they are both low life scam artists with multiple children they regularly neglect. All that conveniently didnt make it into the news!!! Thank God the radio dispatcher keeps recordings. The cab driver waited for a while. The grandmother who dumped the child never returned.
