Black History Month kicks off Thursday

Valentine's Day and the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln used to be the major celebrations during February.

If you are not an african-american you will never understand the purpose of Black History month.
African-American have contribute so much to this country and most races are clue-less even African-American to the great accomplish we have made. Our identity was stolen from us. This give us a chance to reflect on who we are, and to educate other races about our rich history and culture, instead of relying only on what is seen in Ameica's(bias textbooks). So, don't hate, celebrate. Even though we are the most hated race. However the most imitated. Our walk, our talk, our dress style, our hair, our music, our dance, the slang, etc. Live and learn it the beginning to ending racism.

March is Irish-American Heritage Month. May is Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month, November is Native American & Alaska Native Heritage Month, September 15-October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month,

Heritage Months have been given to ethnicities that have help build our country despite being oppressed or treated poorly. We had the Irish and Chinese help build our railroads. Native Americans who taught many settlers how to survive and coexist on this land. All people should be recognize. There is so much to learn from each other. I grew up only hearing about the contributions of Blacks or Hispanics from Blacks or Hispanics themselves. If there was anything about Blacks or Hispanics it was usually just one page or column in our history text books. They never had their own chapter. Every group contributed to America and should have at least a chapter.

Gina, did you say African Americans are the most hated race? Guess again...caucasians are the most hated race, in American and across the globe. Think before you write and stop spewing your rants about racism. These days, everything is construed as racism.

"I know you aint say that"? Sounds like a 3 year old. "All you white people..." What ever happened to words like "of?" And no white people don't get everything. Why should black history month be all year? we don't even have one damn month for whites? or one channel called WET (white entertainment) or white college funds or NAAWP, so just relax, we don't get everything.

I am white and never owned any slaves so why do I have to deal with racism everyday? I get called a white bitch just for making eye contact with a black girl walking by my house? I do not deny that there are some ignorant people out there but I am not one of them. So why do I owe African Americans anything other than the respect that I already give to everyone else? I am also sick and tired of someone crying racism just because they do not get what they want. Some (and I say some) African American make themselves separate from everyone else. They are the cause of most racism that still exists. If you want to be treated equally and not singled out, then you do not get special treatment like BET, Miss Black America, the United Negro College Fund, etc. I would love to see what would happen if I tried to get a scholarship for one of my kids or if we had Miss White America. Oh, I am sorry, that already happened and the pagent was sued. Silly me. What was i thinking? By the way, my husband is an educated black man who goes to work everyday and speaks proper English and he feels the same way. Sorry if I piss anyone off with this post but it's how I feel and that is what this forum is all about right?

Why isn't it called Hate Honky Month? That is more accurate.
Also "Hate and destroy anybody that ain't black month" would also work.
How about "I ought to cut his balls off month" dedicated to Jesse.
Or, "I hate America month" hosted by Michelle Obama and Reverend Write.
