Nothing Will Happen

Of course Sousa is a big political contributor and gave to many politicians like John Rowland to lobby. So Rowland was still in power in 2005 and his appointed Hacks in the DMV would be slow on this and not take action.

See what happened when this got outsourced to save money? Bring this responsibility back to DMV. If we gotta pay someone I would rather it be a State of CT employee rather than a crooked, old cronie contractor.

Who is the private contractor and who is he connected to, and why was the investigation stopped.

Is any of this suprisisng? The state is run by a bunch of dysfuntional people who have been in their jobs for years and have no intrest in doing anything by teh law. I'm sure it's the same with the health inspectors, etc that only a few in the bunch care if things are done right. Not only we should have term limits for our elected state politicians we shoud also have state agencies investigated and now by a bunch of flea bag politicans. Our tax money at work. Donate to a party and be protected for life

Badger - It sounds like the state is just as bad as the private company. A complete overhaul is needed.

Another example of what happened under the rowland era. This story is the "DOT's - Waterbury highway mess" duplicated at the dmv - its all because rowland gave away work the was the states responsibility to control/supervise and gave it to his buddies ! rowlands management "plants" are still everywhere and they still cover these contractors butts. Ward is right, it must have been a sub-concious slip - the school bus industry is running that show too !

Great article by Mr. Lender, As for Mr.Ricci, he deserves a pat on the back. The Courant should send a reporter to a driver training class.

Oh, and that blowhard Sousa should have his contract pulled. Naming your business "An Association" is a questionable ploy in itself.

Privatization is just another way transfer taxpayer money to business owners and away from the people who actually do the work! Any business that is privatized just allows the business owner to keep a bigger share of the revenue(30-60%) than really needed to manage the business, so workers can be paid less! Have you noticed the corruption that is always involved with the contract bids and deregulation, and in the end workers in those businesses ALWAYS make less money (doing MORE work)! You can thank the republicans and the conservative revolution for the last 30 years of screwing the worker!

Mr. Sousa is a piece of s**t left over from the Rowland era. The faster that cancer is carved out of the system, the better. T
The commissioner and other upper level cronies need to answer why they did nothing but play dead when this info was sent up.

She's a little less arrogant when the cameras are on and most of the dirty work is handled by Moody and company so Jodi can play the mildly retarded grandma to the public.

I applaud Mr. Ricci, his willingness to put our safety above internal politics gives me hope. He could have done the easy thing and just went with the flow but appears that he took pride in his job and this seems to be lacking more by many every day. I hope in the future that any and all concerns of inspectors will be taken seriously and looked into. In many situations the larger contractors get preferential treatment, partly because a familiarity that occurs and partly because of the volume of business they provide, but as the saying goes "familiarity breeds contempt".

I have always wondered why Rell has received a free pass on the whole Rowland affair. She was his Lt. Governor. Why do we think that she was not compliciant in his corruption? The best evidence is that it has not stopped under her regime. Look at this Sousa issue, her son's stolen parts ring, and the Moody affair(s) for evidence.
I believe that, perhaps, the aura of good feelings from Ella Grasso has been passed onto Rell, without justification.
The only way for Connecticut to emerge from the legacy of Rowland is to elect an new administration, whether it be Democrat or Republican.

It does not matter who is in the governor's office, Democrat or Republican. These are things that happen everywhere because the legislature and the executive branch BOTH allow people who have a vested interest to have too much influence on how a law is structured and how it is implemented. It is ridiculous to get partisan and political with this kind of thing. This is not Rowland or Rell, it is the electorate who keep voting in the same people into the all state offices without thinking about the issue rather than like and dislike of certain personalities.

Is any of this news? I was one of the few people in my class to learn to drive through my parents, and not through a driving school. They made sure that I could control a vehicle before I went for my test. I spent about three-times what my peers did in supervised driving lessons.
Common sense can't be taught, but these fast-track-to-license programs deliver only what we can expect from such speed: new drivers who have minimal experience.
But before we blame everything on the pathetic schools, let's also look at the parents, who are overly permissive, allowing their children freedom that may not be earned, or that the kids might not be responsible enough to handle. Parents have the power to restrict their 16 and 17-year-olds from driving unnecessarily, so why not use that authority?

My two cents worth

Thank you Mr. Ricci for having the courage and the diligence to become a whistle-blower and bring all of this to the Attorney General and the public.
Great article...well written and very informative.

"But Ward added that if Ricci believes he's the only DMV employee who takes regulation and enforcement seriously,'I think he's perhaps taking too narrow a focus.'
The fact that Ward felt compelled to say this is a major warning sign that he is corrupt and complicit in this scam.
Ricci better get a new job, because they are going to hound him out of state employment.
How about a list of Ricci's supervisors and the people who looked the other way?
Rell-Moody, the 2-in-1 mutant entity, has an administration that is corrupt through and through.
The state needs to end the privatization scam ... the state should hold these classes, not a private political contributor.
Sousa is a real POS for wanting to keep the old DMV wait-forever system in place for his own benefit.
And he should be arrested for theft of the $13k. Clearly and simply, he stole the money. You can't rob a grocery store and just put the money back when you get caught.
WTF is wrong with this state? Why is it corrupted and/or useless in virtually every nook and cranny of state gov't?

MY CHILD WENT THRU ACADAMY OF DRIVING. HER TIME WAS SPENT MOSTLY ON THE HIGHWAY (84 & 8). HER SKILLS IN DRIVING ON BACK ROADS AND MANUVERING TURNS AND CORNERS WAS INSUFFICIENT FOR DRIVING. PARKING AND BACKING UP WAS A MESS. SHE IS A SMALL PERSON AND THE CARS THEY USE ARE ALL THE SAME SIZE THERE FOR MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO LEARN BASICS IN A CAR NOT SUITED FOR HER. THEY SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ONE OR TWO CARS OF COMPACT SIZE FOR THOSEWHOSE SIZE IS PHYSICALLY CHALLENGING. SHE WAS FORCED TO USE SEVERAL PILLOWS UNDER HER AND BEHIND HER TO ACCOMATE HER SIZE. THIS WAS UNSAFE AS THE PILLOWS KEPT SLIDING FROM UNDER HER CAUSING DISTRACTION AND LOSS OF ACCURACY IN VISION AS WELL AS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT FELL AS IF SHE RECIEVED PROPER TRAINING FROM THE ACADAMY AND FEEL THE COST FOR WHAT SHE RECIEVED WAS OUTRAGEOUS. THIS PROGRAM WITH ACADAMY OF DRIVING IS USED FOR THE SCHOOL DRIVERS EDUCATION AT A VERY SLIGHTLY LOWER RATE. I HAVE A SECOND CHILD APPROACHING DRIVING AGE AND HOPE THAT THE ACADAMY WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ADHERING TO ALL PROPER LAWS AND INSTUCTION
