What a shame. I couldn't find a parking place down town when they were tying up at the dock. There was a line of people waiting to get on board and money was as thick as the gnats. Couldn't believe it. City is so smart to allow those sail boat bums to use the free dock, etc. I know they were most anxious for the District to be set up and especially the complimentary hotel. I would have thought the City would have jumped on that like the Gilman Dock House. I was getting excited about having all those tall ships here. Wonder why no other city has jumped on the tall ship venture. I suspect they will all go some where else. Shame we missed out on that. No visionaries on our Council. I was also excited to see a herd of bovines over head when the bums moored their rust bucket.

Has anybody noticed any preparations for getting underway? Like stowing provisions and all that other nautical stuff?

Until they get certified to carry more than 6 passengers, I just don't see the thing as being economically viable or an asset to any community.

It appears that the black and white steel hull two mass sail boat is really going to leave if in fact he has not already pulled out for Charleston, SC. Man has had it with St. Marys.

There's no state line to straddle there.

The only reason the Steelaway is leaving with their tiller between their legs is because their private dock was taken away. Period.

I've ideated on this some more, and with a few inexpensive modifications, I think it would make a fine artificial reef.

As long as the free-loaders are leaving, who cares why? Just don't invite them back. Regardless of where they go, they'll soon be looking for a new free home again.

With dozens of seaports from here to Charleston I'm sure many a Mayor will be waiting on the intercoastal way pleading with them to us their facilities for free. Our stupid townsfolk just doesn't get it.

It is as simple as it can be. Even the dysfunctional council couldn't come up with enough freebies for the free loaders. There is not enough hand out for them to make it here and not any real interest. What other business is entiled like that?
If it doesn't contribute then it is a waste and no one can point to any benefit to any one other than the boat owners.

I don't understand little Tommy Weaver. He supposedly has a charter fishing business and tells his charters to stay in Kingsland and to spend their money in Kingsland. Tommy buys his fuel and needed services in Kingsland.

Then he turns right around and demands that the city of St. Marys send the Steel Away packing. He brings in the DNR to put a 30 minute limit on the docks in St. Marys. Now no one in a boat can even tie up long enough to go to Shark Bite or Riverside for a freakin' hamburger.

I think Tommy Weaver is a little nut job who puts his nose where it doesn't belong. I don't like him and his brother Mike probably didn't fall far from the Weaver family nut tree.

1) Wait and see where the "Steal-A-Way" ends up.

2) See what, or if, they pay for the services and/or dockage they use when they get there.

3) Someone, please, do an "economic impact" study to see how much money the city and local merchants lost with the S-A-W leaving.

4) If you're that big of a fan of the boat...follow it to its' new home port, if it can find one.

Good news: It's a beautiful day, there's little wind, tide's up and you can park for 6/8 hrs at the St Marys park dock.

Bad news: Steelaway is taking up the whole dock, scrubbing their decks.

You can't be serious! Memorial Day weekend and that self centered POS tub just won't go away.

If there is a TM out there who can arm one of those relic MK-14 torpedoes I'll be glad to put it on target.

Pitman-Robertson. It's a 10% excise tax on manufacturers of certain sporting goods, proceeds to fund wildlife restoration projects.

Also, there's an additional tax, although "user fee" is more accurate, that you pay when you purchase a hunting, fishing, wma stamp, etc. in Georgia to fund purchase of land, and enhance access to hunting and fishing opportunities for all the citizens of the state. The legislature hasn't done a very good job of spending it where they are supposed to, and in some cases, Oaky Woods, Sonny Perdue used it to enrich some of his buddies.

A lot of knuckle dragging Neanderthal Sportsman's groups are really pissed about some of the crap that has gone on, and have joined forces with some of the tofu eating vegan a**less b*itches. There is some synergy involved, as both groups share common goals, for the most part. HTH.

I saw the Steel Away anchored just inside the south end of Cumberland Island today at about 12:30 pm. It was kinda sad.

T W and T J are two of St. Marys biggest losers. One can't decide whether he wants to run a bait shop or ride people around looking for croakers and spot. The other is a stinkin crabber who trashes our waterways with the waste he generates from his stinkin crab boats, bait boxes, water bottles, soda cans.

They are real proud of themselves because they went against St. Marys and brought the DNR in to set time limits on the docks.

Hope you feel good, guys. Something tells me you won't feel so good when you are caught breaking a law. Even a leetle one.

That is sad. I was kinda hoping they'd catch the outgoing tide and keep going. Did they run out of money, or what?

Gotta give 'em credit though, they said last Monday they were gonna leave within a week, and they kept their promise.

That's their plan? South end of Cumberland? That's as far as they went?

This is hilarious. I am honestly interested to see where this taxpayers money-sucker ends up.

Maybe the National Park Service will build them a dock on Cumberland. Then they could make "fake pirate attacks" on the Cumberland Queen and Miss Lucy.

I'll give 'em this...they were one vowel off from giving that boat the perfect name.
