Did anyone notice the bill board for city hall in Woodbine today?
It says farewell to Fred "Tommy" Jordan. Just in case no one recognizes this name, He was the older gentleman who slept on the bench at the EJ's country store. You would always see him walking the streets of Woodbine. He was the "Otis" of Woodbine.
I got to know Tommy while I had a business there.
He was a gentle person who would give you the shirt off his back. He always would tell me he was watching out for me at my shop. He may have been a town drunk as some would say, but he had a kind spirit. If you knew Tommy, please say a prayer for him and his family. I will miss him

I had heard about Tommy Jordan passing! I knew him well...seems like all my life really. He was always walking Woodbine. After I moved from Camden for awhile and came back to visit and not seeing him around anywhere was kinda crazy! I had heard that he was really sick or had been in some kind of accident along time ago. Did he even have any family ? Or was the city of Woodbine his family? Well the ones that actually talked to him !

Tommy did have family. His brother Melvin lives just outside the city limits. I know he had lots of friends, he used to stay over behind the snappy food store during the day with friends. Tommy was a good guy. Yes he had gotten hit will walking along road in Kingsland. He was in the hospital for a long time. His brother would tell me he was not doing well, said his mind was not working right after the accident.I do not know if there will be a service for him or not. I was told he had been cremated. He was one of those people who you will never forget.

You are exactly right...he will never be forgotten! He had lots of friends behind Snappy! They always sat out there in their chairs and talked! Whether there was anyone home there or not! It will never be the same! Tommy was a funny man and never complained about anything that he couldn't handle! I will be in prayer for his family though...thank you for posting that he did have family!

Bigman, My family moved from Woodbine in 1956. I went to elementary school with A Tommy Jordan, I am now 60 years old. Could this be the same Tommy I knew?

Thanks kj, sounds like Tommy had a rough go of life. What a shame!

My gosh, a lot of years have passed since then. If you don't mind could you bring me up to speed on some old friends. Libby & Virgina Godly, Sara Jo Nelson, Poo Strickland, Ilene Drury are just a few. Are any of these people still around Woodbine? Also, Joel Williams, Henry Buchanan. I know Gil and Kieth Kelly are still in those parts but I know nothing about the rest.

Thanks

I am Tommy Jordan's son. I did not get to grow up with him, but I know he was a Vietnam veteran with a tough life. If you have any stories about him, please email me at [email protected] thanks.

"Tommy was a good guy" - that means more to me than you can ever know.

You should try Libby and the rest of the crew on the Woodbine blog. http://woodbinegeorgia.blogspot.com/
Libby is on there sometimes. Sara moved back a few years ago and so did Virginia. I'm not sure about Ilene but the others that you mentioned are still here except for Poo she's in Atlanta.

good luck!
