Why is the city charging us for water we don't use? Where do they get off raising my minimum water usage? I don't even use the amount that they had as my minimum usage on the old bill? Has anyone else seen this on their water bill. They are gonna charge us for water we don't even use! THIS ISNT RIGHT!!!

You need to be at the special meeting on Jan 3rd with you bill. The City meeting will start at 5 PM at City Hall. If you cannot make it then, got to the Monday regularly scheduled meeting at 7 PM at City Hall.

I do not know about you, but my bill was about 30% higher because of the increased usage rate.

What really chaps my a$$ is if you read last Friday's paper, you hear the blow hards Jim Gant & John Morrissey ramble on and on about renewing the SPLOST tax in Mar. 2013. If the council is aware of this, there will be hell to pay when the come asking for a SPLOST tax.

They have us by the doo dads. If we don't vote for the SPLOST, our water bills will go up that much higher.

Thanks Trader. I'm glad you got voted out of office.

And I'm really sick of listening to Gant and Morrissey jack their jaws.

They plan to increase rates and taxes regardless of the SPLOST....this new maneuver with not increasing fees but the baseline rate is back door tax increase in my view. They care nothing about the people. Nothing at all. They will do it regardless if we vote yes or no...time to wake up St Marys.

No, it's actually time to grow up and face the financial facts, like all but two of our St. Marys elected officials are doing.

No, let me give you a lesson in the correct identification of true stupidity.

A lie, of course. My perfectly legal well serves only my irrigation system. Just cut a check for $67 and change to the city yesterday for water/sewer.

However, it is true that the well has now reduced my water bill by about $100.00 per month.

Do you mean growing up like raising our water bills by 30% to free up a million dollars on that bond. Then not paying the bond down but put the money into general fund to purchase gilman boat house.
IS that the kind of growing up you speak about.
I refinaced my home twice both times for a lower rate.I never asked for lower payments but went for same payments and home was paid off 17 years earlier than if had stayed with old rates.
Yet you say its smart to redo a bond to get extra cash to purchase things we dont need.
We can blame everyone on council for that but for bird he was not at that meeting.

someone from the Sugarmill Plantation FB page called the city this morning and got an answer...here is what they said:

OK...After speaking with the water personnel, it appears that new water meters do not have DECIMALS when it presents the numbers. Also, the water people said that when they subtract 6569 from 6486 that equates to 8300. But when I calculate it, it comes to 83. After much discussion about MATH, it appears that the water meters do not have decimals and the billing printing system does not have a way to reflect the reading of the bill as 65.69 from 64.86 = 83.00 which is what I used. NOT 8300. The meter is calibrated to bill per 100 gal. Ms. Martha in finance, said it would be expensive to update the billing system to reflect how that is really being done which presents a misleading billing system.

After the helpful discussion with Ms. Martha. I made the suggestion of every quarter ( or every six months) to place in a FRIENDLY informational sheet (with the water bill) of screen shots of the water meter showing St. Marys customers how to read their bill. Because I have spent hours with neighbors hearing their concerns and one thing is clear; communication is a problem. A simple statement in the bill could just read that their bill is 8300 per 100 gal.

What a difference a DECIMAL POINT would make.

That is of course a lie and you know it.

Not one dime from or derived from refinancing of the water/sewer bond debt was used to purchase the boat house property.

Will you be running for mayor or councilman?

Hase and the rest of the real estate cartel speculators took my tax money, future tax monies, my children's tax monies and probably my grand childrens tax monies
and had a useless water/sewer plant built.

The City Council took my tax money and purchased the Gilman boat house property based on real estate speculation.

The current City Council are licking their lips over splost 7 and more speculation.

"someone from the Sugarmill Plantation FB page" Oh come on. By the way, the rest of us were able to read our water bills correctly. Why weren't you?

How the hell can yours be that cheap???
I pay $89 a mo. & don't even use that much water. I can't stand to drink that foul smelling sewer water that we are over charged for and buy bottled.
I even have a filtration system & it still smells.
I'm moving to Kingsland away from this mess.

JAY,you a F@!$ing idiot I sat in the meeting where chuck trader said the increase was to restructure a bond and keep AAA credit rate with Bank of America. but before they would the city needed to show more income.
After it was raised the loan app was resubmitted and it freed up
1 million dollars that was put in general fund 9 days later the gilman property was bought.

So dont sit and say im a liar. you tell me where the money came from. Every council member but bird voted in favor of buying it in a so called excutive meeting. yes even sydney howell.

AND NO im not running for any office im to honest for that crap.
I was in retail with 50-100 people under me for 26 years. and every year they got atleast a cost of living raise. how many has city workers got in last 5 years. I take better care of my dog than the city takes care of their workers

My spouse is a local official. We need to pass more tax increases so me and my family can take more trips to Atlanta. Good food, good wine and lots of fun. It's only tax revenue.
