That is not entirely true. Most do not shop on base because they live out in town. Th gas isn't any cheaper so they buy off base. Some do pay, they pay for their car tags if they have Ga tags and they may pay advalorum tax depending on which state they claim or if their spouses name is on the title. Spouses who work do pay Ga Income Tax. Be careful of what you wish for, it's not 1978 anymore. Do you even remember back that far.

St. Marys population in the eighty's before the base boom. Less than 3500. More than half left after Mill/ Kraft bag closed. Most that stayed work on base or retired. Population now a bit less than 18,000. Welcome to Yankee Town.

I remember 1978 and Camden County was in alot better shape then than it is now.
For them buying things off base. I dont think so the Commisary on base does in food what wal-mart does in total store. The new Dominos does twice the amount kingslands store does. McDonalds in kingsland does twice the base because of I-95 we know thatis the reason.
I also remember in 1976 Jimmy Carter and Sen. Sam Nunn told a group of fishermen that that base would not cut off any fishing area. The words they used were if the military could fish it the public can fish it. Try taking a boat to site 6 pier or way up point peter creek, north river, crab island.mill creek, cherry point,ect...
If you are in navy or work for navy with a 7 or 11 you can by land

Military pays for groceries, gas, household items and lots of other things in town. The fact of the matter is there really isn't a big cost savings on base with a lot of those things. Not to mention RENT or MORTGAGE and upkeep on those properties so your local Lowes gets lots of business. I think Miami needs to return from which he came and stop spewing untruths.

When you are out in town in any business parking lot, take a look at cars' windshields. You'll see red & blue stickers for military & military retirees. You'll also see green & black stickers for civilian workers & base contractors. The latter 2 can't shop on base, but all 4 are shopping in town. Would you like to still go to the old Gilman Hospital for your medical care? Do you think there would be a Lowes or Walmart Superstore without Kings Bay? Get a clue.

Do you have a job? Unless it's a minimum wage Exit 3 job eg McD, you likely would not without KB. KB did not shut down the mill or bag plant. 2 years ago when I had complications after returning from day surgery in a premier JAX hospital, I was thankful for the treatment I got at Camden.

I tell you what... I hope you get your wish. I hope that all the military gets moved to another base and no Trident Subs are left here. Then, when your little area dries up and blows off the map I hope you choke on the dust you ridiculous person.

Don't need a job huh? You are just one of those lumps that are surviving off of government money. Get a clue. As for assistance with expenses, when is the last time you sacrificed your time for someone else. Before you start critisizing what the military gets paid for you either need to step up and raise your hand and join the ranks or shut the hell up.
