Great news!

Starting this Thursady,(12/20/2012), Camdenians will have access to the best fried chicken in the county, along with a choice of delicious sides, at a reasonable price, Monday through Friday for lunch and supper!

It's a good thing Col. Harlan Sanders is not alive to see what this will do to his share of the Camden market.

The home of the exceptional Southern culianry artists formerly known as "Peas & Carrots" will be known hereafter as "The Chicken Shack."

Here's the statement that appeared on the old Peas & Carrots website just today:

After a lot of prayer, many tears and a rough economy we have to announce that Peas & Carrots will no longer be open. After many blessings, answered prayers and favor from God we would LIKE to announce that the Chicken Shack will open Thursday for Lunch at 11am. We will specialize in fried Chicken and some of your favorite sides, we will no longer be an all you can eat but you will still not leave hungry. Please help us pass the word and share our new status on your FB page!
Hours
M-F 11-2 Lunch/5-8 Dinner

Note that these good folks have come to the realization that you simply can't offer all you can eat at a bargain price so long as you are subject to predatory engorgement by the likes of the notorious TDS Thursday Gang of Four. Yeah, burhead, you and you three rapacious buddies. You know who you are.

Their chicken is the best I've ever eaten. I hate to admit it, but that includes my mother and grandmothers. Trust me - that's saying something.

If you've had their vegetable dishes, I need say no more.

Here's an idea.

If you are on your way home from your job in Jax or Nassau County and you just really don't feel like cooking supper, why not call ahead to The Chicken Shack? You can just come up Hwy 17 out f Florida, hang a right at Hwy 40, go one block and turn left and you are three. You will never darken the doors of KFC again. Trust me.

I'll be right back with their phone number.

Oh, so you work in Brunswick?

No problem. I-95S to Harriets Bluff. Right on Harriets Bluff,, left onto Hwy 17, left onto Hwy 40, take next left (1 block), then right into parking lot. You're there.

No, arsshole.

Cathy Gentry had called me the night before and expressed her condolences on the death of my father. When she told me they were having liver and onions the next day, I decided it was an auspicioyus time to see if they had made any progress in returning to their glory days.

As I reported, they have indeed.

Why don't you stop by the Chicken Shack and try trash mouthing me to the owners or anyone who works there?

You might want to eat somewhere else first or you might miss a meal.

Moreno, you are at least 50 pounds heavier than any of us and you eat twice as much. STFU so I don't have to slap you up side the head.

So, as predicted, Peas & Carrots went under. I expected them to last a little longer then they did, but they never really stood a chance. The restaurant business looks easy and lucrative but it is anything but. With a start up failure rate of over 80%, it is amazingly easy to lose a lot of investment in a very short period of time. If the owners are going to continue on, I hope they have brought in a new partner with some experience in the business of operating a restaurant.

Lesson number one is you can't survive with an AYCE restaurant when half your customers are fat ass gluttons like Julian "Jay" Moreno.

The only person I know who would ask for a doggy bag at an AYCE because he had stuffed himself so much he couldn't eat dessert.

So they didn't even last three months as peas an carrots , thew won't last another three months as a chicken joint even with morenos typing and hyping they cannot afford the cost of operation and will close for good next time. I think it amazing that Moreno blames their failure on someone else who eats all they can when he shovels that slop down his chute till he can't gorge no more then trundles off in his power chair till the next day when he repeats it like groundhog day the movie bahahaha

Let me see if I have this right. A diner by all accounts trying to survive in a terrible location will now be serving only chicken. With the exception of about fifty local competing chicken outlets this is a stroke of genius. The kind of genius only a Moreno could understand. Maybe three months if they have deep pockets.

Yes, Wally, you are missing the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. You're missing the best, fresh vegetables you've ever eaten at a restaurant.

I'll tell you what, I'm so convinced ot is the best fried chicken in Camden that I'll put my money where my mouth is.

The first twenty people who send me a receipt from Peas & Carrots/Chicken Shack dated Thursday, 12/20/2012, along with a signed statement of why you did not like it and your printed name and address, I will mail you my personal check for $5.00 in time for Christmas.

Every restaurant in our area offers fried chicken, all the supermarket deli's have fried chicken, several of the fast foods have fried chicken plus your KFC/Church etc...

Yes, and I've tried them all.

Far and away, the best is at Peas and Carrots/Chicken Shack.

Publix fried chicken is also good but there is one major problem at Publix. Well, a couple actually. The worst problem is that the physical setup and staffing of the deli area where you oick up the fried chicken both suck. Major bottleneck. Unacceptably long wait for service when all working moms who decided to have take-out chicken rather than cook show up at roughly the same time. The second is that they just can't seem to hve enough chicken of all types they offer ready at peak times. They are constantly running out. I've seen a dozen customers backed up waitng for a batch to finish frying and be packaged.

As I've pointed out previosuly on this thread, Peas and Carrots/Chicken Shack should be a good alternative. Once folks try it, it will go from alternative to first choice.
