You are correct that technically st marys rd turns into scrubby bluff at that point but people understood where I meant. As for it not being a road block, you are full of shit cuz I went through it. The cops were stopping every car and checking ID's. I asked the cop why he needed my ID and he just simple said "ID check". I don't doubt there was a wreck there but they turned it into a full blown road block. Welcome to the police state.

Papers please, except noone said please.

Where was the bad wreck? I was coming from Kingsland to St Marys at about 2:30PM yesterday and the police had traffic stopped around the overpass. The traffic was backed up to the Mariners Landing traffic light. I turned around and went to Colerain Rd and the traffic overflow from 40 was backing up the traffic at the St Marys Rd light.

Anyone with info as to why the traffic was being blocked?

Paco we are talking about two different events. You are talking about the traffic light that was dangling 5 feet off the road in front of Hardees on hwy 40. I am talking about a road block set up on scrubby bluff (extention of st marys rd) where cops standing in the middle of the road were stopping every car and checking ID's.

I guess some folks like being randomly stopped and having thier identifications searched just for the hell of it. If you like that then you will love the cavity searches that coming down the pike.

I like having my drivers license and registration checked randomly. It helps catch the scum out there driving with no license, or insurance, or registration, or drunk, or smoking dope, or whatever, Public safety checks are always welcome in my county.

You must love the nude body scanners that TSA uses. Just wait til they start puttng those in public schools to screen your kids. They would put them in other government buildings too.

You don't know what you are talking about. They are already pulling the scanners from airports and replacing them with a new generation scanner that does not show detail but reveals foriegn objects concealed on the body. Sorry to discredit your line of BS.

What is or where is the law written that Random ID checks are legal in Georgia?

It was probably a sobriety/DUI checkpoint under the guise of a license checkpoint. I think they are a great idea. It might even get some of the drunk/drugged drivers, no license, no insurance or road-raged drivers off of the road. They might even save your life someday.

It's not actually in the traffic law code section of the OCGA. Road Blocks, Sobriety Check Points, License Checks, or whatever you want to call them are supported by case law. However they must meet certain criteria such as visibility, and jurisdictional issues. They are considered legal and are carried out all over the state and in other states as well.
