Grand jury: Marin 'sobering center' would be more humane for public inebriates and would save money

There are 33 comments on the Marin Independent Journal story from Feb 28, 2013, titled Grand jury: Marin 'sobering center' would be more humane for public inebriates and would save money. In it, Marin Independent Journal reports that:

County health officials should consider creating a "sobering center," a safe place where public inebriates could be taken to sober up instead of being sent to a hospital emergency room or the county jail, the Marin Civil Grand Jury concluded in a report issued Thursday.

Huh. "Budget cuts" caused them to stop using Helen Vine. And they started sending them to the ridiculously expensive emergency rooms. Like I said. Huh.

On a related note, RICKY RAT gives a big "Two Paws Up, Waaay Up" to the Santa Rosa Detox Center. Where you can check in off the street, go straight to bed, and sleep for three days. And, if they come in and wake you up wanting you to go to an AA meeeting, you can tell them to take their AA meeting, and, well, you know...

Helen Vine, for those of you that don't know, is off of Smith Ranch Rd. Left turn just before the golf course. Used to be the old Honor Farm, where you went to when you had jail time to do.

In fact, they have maybe four pretty big buildings from the old Honor Farm sitting empty out there. We've got plenty of room. Hell, we could even start bringing in drunks from other counties...
