I am thinking of relocating my family to Alton from Granite City, but have heard some negative things. Some of the things I have hard is that there are shooting all the time and a lot of crime. How true is that? How safe is Alton. I appreciate any true answers I can get. Thanks

Imagine a toilet. Add 3 armed crackheads, then your family, and flush. Get the picture?

I moved from granite to alton....i love it here. Just choose a decent neighborhood. Gc and alton are both large towns. There is crime in both. Youll never get away from it. If u want a nice quiet town, pick somewhere smaller.

I have lived in Alton for 26 years, Godfrey for 20 prior to that -- The crime is dependent on the neighborhood. Schools are good, you also have the option of several private schools. One of my kids went to Alton High, the other to Marquette -- they were different kids and both thrived at the school that they attended. Both are hard working, college educated, honest and trustworthy, tax paying citizens. The jobs are scarce, but they are available. Some areas could be considered a "bedroom community".

Some areas are very rough and need to be avoided...
