Well, then I guess you cant really dispute what mutt said. He contended the GOP was against using federal dollars, and I could find nothing that did not support that claim. I could find no mention of banning abortions altogether. Nor could I find any mention of them saying that life begins at conception or wanting to change the constitution.

It's well documented. It's there somewhere. THe GOP doesn't hide their platform.

Here is the Republican platform in its entirety. Abortion and birth control is not banned anywhere.

Do a search for "roe vs wade republican plank" and it will show a number of links about the planks in the Republican national Committee's platform. One their planks opposes abortion in all cases with no exceptions for rape or incest. Sorry I can't post a link, can't google it on my work computer or copy it from the cell phone search.

I think it's funny that you keep calling me a liberal. You don't even know me.

But opposing abortion is not outlawing it. I could find nothing that wants to make abortion a criminal act (aside from taking a minor across state lines to have one, and that is not about making the abortion illegal, just transporting the person.)

Race, I know that at STATE levels there are constant attacks on women's medical rights. Not just to curtail availability and access to abortion, but also to contraception.
I will not comment on the federal or Republican platform, but there are many attempts to make health care for women more difficult to obtain in many states. Especially against Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides MUCH more than abortions. They cannot use federal funds for abortions, but they provide for many women the only contraceptives they can afford, pap smears and other health care. Shutting them down (as MANY state's legislators want to do) will only result in more women who cannot get reliable contraception, which will result in more abortions, and many women will not be diagnosed with cancer in time for treatment.

Well, I have never followed any of this, but I hear so much that the republicans want to make abortion illegal, I decided to check for myself, and I could find no quote from their website to support that allegation. If someone can show me a direct quote from their website, not a personal quote from any single person, but an actual party line stance then I will believe it.

I said NOTHING about federal or organized republican efforts, but I know through my work with PP and other women's organizations that there is a LOT being done in many states to mess with women's rights to health care.
Those bills and attempts are usually by republican reps, and not always by men, and they ONLY affect WOMEN. No man has EVER died from complications of pregnancy.
Trying to shut down PP in states, attempts to declare women potentially pregnant from the first day after her menses, declaring "personhood" for zygotes, and yes, attempts to further restrict or outlaw abortions.
It IS happening, and I would think anyone with a daughter would be concerned. But hey, it's the women's problems, not yours, right? Who cares if she has access to health care or contraception? Or dies from an ectopic pregnancy because some state decided that every z/e/f is more important than her, even if it's already dead or is killing her.
You don't know about these things because they aren't important to you. I understand, you can't get pregnant, but perhaps for your daughter's sake, you become more informed.

Now I'm done with this, at least here. I won't be responding to ANYONE on the subject, at least not this month.
I'll continue my support where it counts.

I'm not sure what i did to pee you off, but it was never my intent. Like I said, I dont follow this issue, you obviously do, but just because I am not involved with it, does not mean that I dont care. I have absolutely no idea what PP offers, never set foot in one of those places. Uninformed? Yes, but dont label me insensitive/uncaring just because I dont have a vagina. Thats a pretty broad brush your painting with.

As far as I know, FL is not trying to shut down PP and if they are and I dont know about it, blame the media for not spotlighting this issue, no me for not being vigilant to these attempts.
