All my life I have been told that southern people are ignorant, uneducated, backwoods rednecks who want no better in life, who sound stupid when they speak , and who marry their cousins. you know, the typical southern stereotype. I actually believed it myself.
But as luck would have it, I had to relocate to GA for my Job. I ended up in Savannah GA. I dreaded it.But I was blown away by the culture here. They are absolutely nothing like I expected. They are so family oriented and some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They are in fact educated. Most of whom I spoke with have a 4 yr degree or higher. They are hardworking people who will do anything for a neighbor or even a stranger in need.
When I got to know a lot of them, I asked them what they think about Northern people. One gentle man said that its a shame that people up North have such a negative view of them, but that they don't know any better. Not one person said anything unkind about northern people, except one lady did refer to us an Yankees.
This lady told me of a time she went on vacation in PA. Gettysburg. and while there she and her family went to have lunch at a Pizza Hut. As She and her family were discussing planned events, She over heard people at the next table refer to them as disgusting hillbillies. She informed them that she turned around and said "Sugar, I'm not a hillbilly. No one in family is considered a hillbilly. Where I come from, there are no hills. I am not a redneck either. But I see here that there are hills, so you dear, must be in fact, a hillbilly. What I am is a Southern Bell. But don't let that fool you, because I will beat your ass all this parking lot. See, hun, where I come from, we defend ourselves. We don't run. Now apologize." To which the other woman did. Yes, there where witnesses who said that it happen. She also told me that people in PA were rude and she will never go back again.
Now another thing is, they are considered as racists. Not ONE person that I have encountered has said anything that would be considered racist. I am embarrassed by the way that I have myself made fun of them in the past. They are very likable people. I love it here and I intend to bring family here. I wish everyone back home in Philly could have this experience.
oh, and a side note. They take no responsibility for Honey Boo Boo.

You have just proven my point. and how am I hick? Dude, I'm from Philly. But you know, I would much rather be called a hick, than to be apparently what you are, which is an uneducated, white trash, idiot who cannot even put a decent sentence together. We all just sitting here laughing at your ridiculous post. Shovel horse manure? Isn't that what your mother does, after she cleans filthy toilets all day? Or was that after she gave me blow job?

I was born and raised in philly (the city). I moved to the country 5 years ago. I can tell u the people here make philly seem sane. My ex bf is a redneck and I don't ever want to date one again! Down in some parts of the mountains, they do have inbreeding.Gross! The police won't go near their communities because they shoot to kill. Too much drama in the country. I can't wait to come back home
