Link cards are draining our state. If you want to eat go get a job, plant a garden and can the food. Jobs can be found if you want to work. It would save our state millions of dollars every year if we stopped link cards. Years ago if you didn't work you didn't eat. It should still be that way.. One way to save our tax dollars..Think about it.

What about the disabled worker who cant work anymore and no more workers comp and average Social Security is 12,000 a year. You going to force that person to starve??What about the older couple who worked for 40 years believing that Social Security would be enough for retirement just like the rest of their generation. You going to force them to starve???You obviously speak before thinking!!

Django has a very good point, lets just make everyone take drug test to receive the help.

I think the LINK cards should be available to all the poor. However there should be limits to what can be purchased with them. Did you know you can even buy chewing gum with them? Not to mention the millions of sodas bought every year. I am a taxpayer who does not want any one to ever go hungry- especially children and the elderly. But I do not want to treat the entire population to a free Coke!

I did not mean to sound mean. I was not talking about people who can't work. I meant that for the healthy people that WON'T work. There are too many of them. If they would support themselves there would be more help for the truly disabled. We have elderly folks that don't have enough income to make it. We have homeless veterans. Young healthy people that won't work are the ones I was referring to. Please don't feel that I was insulting the disabl ed.

The thing is there are a lot of people who just assume everyone with a link card is a low life sob. Not everyone that carries a link card is proud. It is really embarassing, actually. I don't have one now. Unless you know that person, how can you say they can, but don't work? Or they they don't work. Just because you have a link card does not mean a person does not work and pay taxes just like you. It means by the time they pay essential bills electric, gas, water, rent, child care,(because they work) there is not enough leftover. I think we all know groceries are insanely expensive. Just to go in and buy basic items can add up to 80 bucks really quick. it can happen to anyone.

Agree public aide should be a place for help during hard times for whomever but, it seems that some folks think it's a retirement. Yes it is very humbling to have to need assistance for some others think someone owes them.. The reality of it is that it is getting miss used and we all know what that's is about. I find it very troubling that some only get a few dollars worth of link and instead of seeing how much food and how far the money will go with groceries they buy steak and the most expensive cereal cookies, soda etc.. Juice is better for kids than soda anyway. How many children do you know that really enjoy steak? Catch my drift...... and by the what whatever happened to only being able to stay on link for a short time then you had to go to work for a short time?

I have no problem with public aid in the short term. I have a major problem with public aid as a way of life. Has anyone ever wondered "why" our agriculture industry relies on the labor of illegal immigrants? Or "why" we have so many on public assistance when, here in our own county, there is work available that only immigrants are willing to perform?

Yeah because our government couldn't possibly be wasting our tax dollars for their own greed huh?! That's not possible, let's all blame the poor and link card users for our tax dollars being drained! Our government cares about us! They raise their own wages each year, purchase planes, strippers, vacations and who knows what else on our dime. Get a clue.

Well I guess I am just asking for judgemental comments. So I guess me or my 2 YOUNG children do not deserve to eat because I am self employed (WORK THROUGH THE STATE OF ILLINOIS PROVIDING CHILD CARE SO OTHER PEOPLE CAN WORK AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN BEING CARED FOR PROPERLY AND MAKE SHIT FOR MONEY, mind you) and receive Illnois SNAP benefits, have for several years. I live on my own, pay for my lights, water, phone, etc.. No help from my childrens father, but we manage. I DO NOT do drugs and I can not tell you when I plan NOT receive the benefits from SNAP any longer. If it wasn't for the program, I would not be able to put food on the table for my children daily and that is a bad feeling. Pay for your lights or feed your kids. I pay taxes just like the rest of you and I receieve help just like the taxpayers bitch about, so I am not so sure what the issue is. Yeah we are in a hell of situation, but I certainly DO NOT believe that it is to be ALL blamed on people that are receiving assistance for feeding their children and themselves.

Me and my husband both have full time jobs, he gets paid every week, and I every other week. But with the cost of our home, lights, water, gas to get to work, phone, etc... We have a link card. We are far from poor but we do need help sometimes. And before you say anything hurtful, we get over min. Wage. Our bills are just high. That happens when you are on your own. Life's a struggle. And not everyone can do it all on there own. Trust me I know. But I do think people should be drug tested. And it is pretty dumb you can buy gum. It's for FOOD not junk.

America is no longer the "land of opportunity" it is now the "land of entitlement". Since when did it become someone elses responsibility to take care of others.......for life. The government has no money of its own, only the money it "takes" from someone else. If you are using government money (mine) then you open yourself to scrutiny. Don't like your situation?????? Go back to school (plenty of government programs to assist)get a degree, get a better job. All it takes is a little internal drive. Choose not to do so (which is your choice)then live with your decisions.

Okay you say YOUR money because YOU are a tax payer? ALL your taxes go to lazy ass people on public aid..?! WELL I WORK and I PAY taxes out of my check too, SO please tell me how it makes me a bad person to draw food stamps to feed my children? They take taxes out of my check just like to do every Tom, Dick and Harry.
