What a wonderful example of sportsmanship for the children! They should both be ashamed of themselves.

Both should be punished. Criminal charges are ridiculous. If Mr. VonKarle was foolish enough to go behind a building with someone he was arguing with he went there knowing something bigger was going to happen. Neither should be allowed to games or practices in the future. I feel sorry for the kid as this was brought to the attention of the media and he is going to be made fun of and have people support him all because of two idiot adults.

Another perfect example of a parent hell bent on blaming everyone but their kid for the kid's shortcomings. When I got in trouble as a kid, it was the principal and my parent versus me. Now, the educators are to blame when a kid is struggling, whether with attendance, punctuality or classes, and the sense of parental entitlement is disgusting. When you're late, you pay the consequences...that's a lesson I pray they'll teach my children. You sink or swim with your chosen medium of transportation, even if it is your idiot father. Then dad starts a fight that he cannot finish...how is that a crime? If dad started the fight, it'll come out with all the witnesses present, and if so, he deserved to get his butt whooped and he deserves having hte coach pursue him for criminal charges. I'd sue him for the bruises on my knuckles.

Good thing William Reynolds did not punch a dog in the face, he would be in real big trouble. The man should never be allowed to coach again anywhere. This poor kid will now get teasd for the coach being fired. what a bunch of losers, my god. Whats next parent stabs coach... jesas.

How can anyone justify a coach severely beating this father for any reason? That is assault and he should be charged accordingly.

Well said..it is well known he is trouble. Wilmington is a great town and it is a shame that there are parents who still act like idiots and give our town a bad rap...

This coach, William Reynolds should be FIRED. No coach has the right to assault a parent. I don't care who started it, teachers and coach's are to show RESPECT for the students and parents. Kick this BUM OUT!!!!

As evidenced by half the earlier responses, parents in the NE take their kids sports way too seriously. No better way to ruin it for the kids. How do you suppose this kind of coach treated the kids? Who would willingly allow that? The coach spoke this way to child & parent because he expected the other parents to support him as if to prove their kids were superior to the one he's singling out.

Bullying - plain & simple. Time for adults to grow up & stop enrolling them in sports leagues that abuse kids. Apparently it's ok to bully if you're in a position of authority. There's no way kids can have fun in this kind of league....

I probably would have popped the kids dad in the face too if he made fun of me in front of the team. The dad should just lick his woulnds and drop the charges! His kid must feel like a wuss! haha

You know what you get with that philosophy: Kids who hate football and parents who think you are a jerk. For crying out loud, it's a 12 year old playing, not the Patriots. And BTW, it ain't Belichick coaching

The kid doesn't drive. Plain and simple, why punish the kid for being late? And WTF does running laps teach about football? When you have to do something purely punitive like assigning laps, then you are an idiot coach. IF the coach was asking kid to run the laps all the other kids had to run before practice, thats a different story. But then he's an idiot for not explaining it properly.

I've coached for over 10 years. The only reason to assign laps outside of average running is when players are not listening. If kid doesn't show up on time, then don't start him. But make sure you're prepared to do the same with assistant coaches kids, star player, etc.

Not coaches kid's fault. People/kids should leave him alone. But he absolutely should never coach again, any sport.

Hey, I have some advice for VonKarle. If you are insulting sombody be AWARE when they ask you to go in the woods. You were wrong on getting your kid to practice late, by insulting the coach in front of his team and other parents and by walking into the woods with a man you just insulted. Mike lick your wounds and take it like a man. Show your son that you are a man afterall.

Agreed. 1 lap for every minute your late for practice.

Parents need to sit on the side lines or in their cars while the kids practice. IT'S JUST A GAME PEOPLE.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Scorpio

It will be easy to let things get on top of you today, especially if you're already feeling rather tired and listless. Do yourself a favor and keep away from anyone who often makes you feel a bit fed up or defensive, because they're the last person you want to be around at the moment. They'll make your spirits sink down to your ankles in a flash, and who needs that?
