Residents reflect on illegal immigration issue

The draining impact of illegal aliens on the nation's economy has many people in the Sun Cities demanding that something be done to keep the immigrants from continuing to siphon money from health-care and education programs.

Of all places faced with illegal immigration! Sun City and Sun City West are retirement communities. Thankfully they have the time to want changes! I can't help but wonder just how many VETS are living there and how angry they must be! McShame should be really proud of his newest ploy to attract the Hispanic votes by attending the upcoming LaRaza convention in San Diego.....

Then why is it when I go through the Sun Citys I see illegals doing yard work, trimming trees, and doing home repairs? We are licensed contractors and when we are called to the Sun Citys for job estimates, we are passed over for the illegal without a contractor's license just so they can save a few bucks. So Sun City and S.C.W. you can't have it both ways. Part with a little more of your "limited income" and pay an American Citizen to do your work.

The yard workers that I use are of Mexican decent that are here legal and have been for decades.
We in Sun City have a very close knit association with one another. Its almost like one big family and 'word of mouth' is what will make a business survive and another go bankrupt.
Border jumpers are not welcome in Sun City and our great Sheriff Posse chases them out of here daily. They do a wonderful job day and nite and have the modern equipment available to them. They are all volunteers and donate many hours serving the community and are very much respected.
Our crime rate is very very low here and I belive part of that reason is because we watch out for one another constantly.
I love living in Sun City. Its affordable, safe and clean.
No border jumpers allowed...!

Touche...are you listed with the HOA as a perfered contractor and with Ken Meade Reality on their perfered list ?
To get a crack at doing work here you need to be associated with them or you probably wont get much work.
Once you get a job, be competitive, do a good job, clean up the job site and ASK for referals.
I have know personally several people that started out with an old pickup and their son or daughter helping them and today they have several workers and are driving expensive new trucks and are doing great.
We in Sun City dont always go for the cheapest bid, actually we expect quality and are willing to pay for it, after you have proven your ability and craftsmenship. but also we dont like getting ripped off either.
Do what you say, do it well and you will make a good living in Sun City.
Again...NO BORDER JUMPERS. If you show up with Mexicans that dont speak a word of english and everytime a Sheriff Patrol Car comes down the street they hide, you probably will not get a chance to come back to do another job.
Enough said...good luck.

Well have you ever gone door to door with your information or sent it in the mail? If you haven't you should. A building contractor told me it's rather easy to rid an area of illegal. Have blue shirts printed ICE in yellow! Worked for his company and they'haven't seen the illegals back since!

What do you mean go door-to-door or send it in the mail ?

We meet every a.m. and have coffee and breakfast with our neighbors. a different house each a.m. and also we go to the neighborhood cafe.

I dont think you undersatnd...its more like a family than a city. Its a 'life style' not a dog-eat-dog living. We have nothing to prove to one another, we are retired, or work part-time and also volunteer our time at places like our great hospitals etc...

We really do care about one another and show it it many ways. I have the best neighbors in the world and love them all. My wife and I enjoy our time with them and also watch their property as they do ours when out of town.

Sorry! I chose the wrong one to reply to it was about Touche's statement, not yours! I know you have a great community! I love your property taxes! Sorry again, didn't mean to rile you up! I was just trying to suggest that Touche put his name and services out there.

NE Red...okay, no problem. If he wants to crack Sun City for business he needs to first go to the HOA and have them check him out. The process is intense and they do a good job, but once hes approved and listed as a 'HOA APPROVED' Contractor he wont have much problem in securing work, however he must be competive and do good work in order to get the 'word of mouth' referals going which will sky-rocket his business.

Yes the property taxes are low and the Rec fees are reasonable for all that you get. We have 5 rec centers within a 4 mile radius of our home.

I will tell you why illegals work in Sun City and Sun City West a great deal of the people living in these two locations are on fixed income and they must pay for food, shelter, gasoline and medical care the same way other people do who have jobs they work for less so we can get our yards and repairs done when you get to be 70 years old we will see how much you can do around the house.

Exactly! You've proven my point. Don't you think that an American Citizen has to pay for food, shelter, gasoline, and medical? On top of that we have to pay taxes and YOUR social security that your illegal landscapers and home repair don't pay in to.

I just had my yard done by the Martinez Family Lawn Care Company. Raul has been in Arzona 59 years, his son was born here 30 years ago and his son is 18 years old. Raul gained his citizenship when he was born in Casa Grande and his father and mother were from Ajo where his dad was a miner for 40 years.

This is typical for the 'registered' and 'HOA' approved contractors in Sun City. They do a great job, speak perfect english, respect your property and with their fee and tip, make a decent living.

We have done several jobs in S.C. & S.C.W. We have a job that we have contracted right now. Nor have we been entangled with any H.O.A. These are people who decided they wanted quality over the amount on the bottom line. My business is ornamental iron work,(ex. gates, security doors, view panels fencing, etc) Our prices are very competitive even though our costs have skyrocketed since the first of the year. But we can't compete with the illegal workers that are not licensed. Example being we pay for our license renewal, recovery fees. contractor's bond, contractors liability, membership dues for being a member of the B.B.B. I can be referred to a potential customer like the former poster Coolmot and it's all about how cheap they can get the work done even if it means going with an illegal worker working out of his garage. I live close to the Sun Cities and I see all the illegal workers. I don't lump all S.C. residents in the same catagory. But the O.P. was about why is there illegals in the Sun Cities, that they are becoming more predominate. And I ask, why are they there if not to work. I don't think they're buying houses. It's because residents are looking for cheap labor. If you want them gone, you're going to have to leave the neighborhood and branch out and talk to some of the other residents. There are a lot of Coolmots in the Sun Cities.

Am not kidding, Sheriff 'Joe' is booting border jumpers out of other communities and is doing a great job. Personally I dont know where these border jumpers are in Sun City working or I would call him myself !

What do you folks think about your Governor pulling Sheriff Joe's funding?
