Is Wittman a good area to live in. I am from Chicago so am used to city life and the crime that goes with it. Just was wondering what the "scoop" is on this area. We were looking to move to Surprise but like the large lots and open spaces in the Wittman area. We have 6 dogs- all rescued from shelters and all live indoors.

It depends on what you define as being good. Wittmann is notoriously known as being a drug asylum and murdering dump land. In reality the sheriff has the crime rate so low out here he doesn’t even send units out to patrol on a regular basis. We had a triple murder last year a man killed his parents and a sibling, the state patrol was first to arrive on the scene. There are few reports that the sheriff's office ever releases on activity in the area. We have a fire department that is graduating from having been an all volunteer to now being a paid fire-service with a local-firefighter union organized. Like all entities that experience change it has suffered some somber growing pains. Away from the community center (Center St. & Grand near the post office) and the Chaparral area (Patton Rd, and Grand area near 2nd fire station) you'll find more open spaces. There are pro's and con's to buying in the area.(1) Be sure the property you are looking to buy is not in a restricted building zone protected by fly-over paths for Luke AFB. No you will not be told the property is in the zone you have to contact the county and ask for yourself.(2)Property prices may be lower, resale values are even lower with the economy going further down the tube. So you are buying in a market that is deflating and has not hit bottom.(3)Freedom to Bear Arms is a good thing to keep in mind as one those numbers listed in the Bill of Rights to take advantage of. Then consider keeping that freedom loaded. Basically it is what it is. You are much more probable to get clubbed at the quickie-mart on a street corner in downtown Phoenix or robbed at gunpoint at the ATM in Surprise

From what i have read on the Surprise topix board, Wittman does not sound appealing at all. Having 6 dogs, i wanted a large piece of property. I used to live up in Mohave County, Az and Wittman sounds alot like Dolan Springs. The town of maricopa is not good either. I really wanted to live out in Tonopah but that is too far of a commute. Thanks for your imput. I will probably end up somewhere in a subdivision (yuck).

Surprise wants to utilize the Grand Ave corridor up thru Morristown to create industrial zones and rail yards so their drive is to annex parcels piece by piece and rezone long range planning. There are a few landowners still fighting but eventually if the county or state doesn’t intervene the drive to Wickenburg will be lined with industrial type businesses. If you go east of Grand you are going to find more suitable open spaces but beware of plans that are in the works for a rail yard across from the Nadaburg Elementary School in Wittmann. If you go out toward Hwy 74 you may also find something to suit your needs. Depending on where you need to commute to in the metro, Hwy. 74 and I-17 takes you to Cave Creek and North Phoenix. Grand will parallel you to Glendale, Peoria, and Phoenix. If you will click on the Wittmann News section and select “FOR SALE” Wittmann ranks with Scottsdale…” there are links that will access a news feed that will help you find zip codes where property values are best bets at this time.

Lady if you are even half smart! you will stay as far away from the Wittmann area as you can get.
Don't listen to elkc and his bullshit! there is one reason and only one, that the sheriff will not!! allow his deputies to patrol the Wittmann area and that reason being that the sheriff is smart enough not to send his boys into a battle zone of trigger happy, drug crazed crackheads where they wouldn't have a chance of survival. Jesus Christ lady, these people in Wittmann will murder their own entire family just for laughs. You stated that you have 6 dogs, one week in Wittmann and you would have 0 dogs, what you call dogs these drug crazy fools call target practice.

As far as any real law enforcement goes, I must say that there is a troop train loaded with National Guardsmen that comes through Wittmann once a month on the pretext of keeping the peace, but nobody gets off the train and they sure as hell don't stay long. No Missy there is not one square foot of safety in the entire area called Wittmann, but if you're hell bent on coming to Wittmann, I would suggest you come loaded for bear, in a full suite of body armor driving a Goddamn tank and have a really shitty attitude, that way you might last a week.

PS: Don't bring the Goddamn dogs. J. W. Simms.

LMAO! With a promo-blitz like that there are no threats to open range, Wittmann becoming too crowded or anymore adoring pets being drove out in to the county and then dumped out.

Wittmann is a great place is you want to manufacture crack or hide your criminal record from others. Otherwise, run like hell to ANYWHERE else!

Anywhere in surprise is great - the worst areas of Surprise are better than the "best" areas of Shittmann.

Don't listen to these fools who have nothing good to say about anything. Come out for a visit and decide yourself. You will find a quite community out in the country but not far from life's necessities. What you won't find is that the Sheriff is afraid to send his deputies out here. One nutcase going beserk and wiping out HIS family means nothing. It happens everywhere. Many people have dogs out here and nobody is out shooting them. Except Simms, who probably eats his own dogs. It is a dog eat dog world you know. There is no National Guard troop train here either. What you will positvely find is one big mouthed, negative speaking, blowhard called J. W. Simms. He has been a menace on this forum for a couple of years. You will soon discover (if you haven"t already) that his posts consist of a bunch of foul mouth nothings.
Come out and experience Wittmann. A lot of people have moved out here in the last ten years for the same reasons you seek. And that is to the dislike of Mr. Simms and a few others.
Should you decide to buy out here, take Mr. Elkc's advice and make sure there are no restrictions on the property you are considering. There are alot of properties caught up in a lawsuit between the state and Maricopa county concerning Luke Air Force Aux Field one located in Wittmann. There is a moratorium on building permits. No permits for any reason on the affected properties for the moment. How long it will last or if it will become permanent is anyone's guess at the moment.

You know my husband and I just bought a very nice home out in wittmann not that long ago and we love it! We heard alot of bad things about wittmann but you hear bad things about any town you go to. There are some parts of wittmann that are "nicer" then others but over it is a small quiet town. You hear more bad things happening in surprise then you do wittmann, wittmann just gets the blunt of it all because its a small town. Its small town syndrome I guess. I think the thing that makes me most nervous about being a wittmann resident is that JW Simms man living in my community. My advice check out the area you buy in, when we were looking at homes we went to alot! that were in the "not so nice" areas of wittmann and i could tell that there would be trouble. no town is perfect preiod!!! you could move to surprise, where i happen to have lives for 3 years previous to moving to wittmann.

Don't listen to this crazy old pervert lady, he's been trying to unload his piece of shit Springer house for a long time now and he's hoping some unsuspecting somebody like yourself will come along. There are many old perverts such as this one in Wittmann. I have no idea if you have children or not, but because of this, Wittmann is NOT! a place for kids. As far as your dogs are concerned, dogs are not welcome in Wittmann and the ones that are still alive are kept in the house 24/7, six dogs in one house 24/7 does not sound like a fun time to me. J. Yes, i keep 6 dogs in my house and it is VERY FUN! They are like children and wear sweaters and eat home baked puppy treats every night. I sometimes have foster dogs come and stay too. From all the responses, i would fear for my dog's safety so will not be going out to Wittman.

Well now, for some strange reason that decision seems kind of sad to me, you sound like just the kind of Fucking nutcase that would fit right in, in Wittmann. I must say your strange fixation on DOGS! seems to be a lot more than just a bit unhealthy, you should really have that looked at, could be a sexual thing. J. W. Simms.

Like I said, foul mouth nothings. The above is proof positive. He spews out the garbage of which he has no knowledge. I would suggest Mr. Simms, that you sit down with a can of Alpo and take a breather, less you begin to foam at the mouth. You know what we do to dogs in Wittmann that foam at the mouth? After your can of Alpo, have your master take you for a rabies booster.

I have 4 dogs and I walk our biggest dog every day, I think it would be a plus to have u here in Wittmann being that u rescue dogs. U'r dogs will love the area they can run and get better, I only have one acre that's fenced with a fence inside area for my little ones. I have not come across any drug people around the area, but I'm sure its no different than any other area in Arizona. I think the old Wittmann maybe had a lot of troubles with it, but their has been a lot of new people in the last five years that are good hard working people here that love the open area with half way clean air. judge for u'r self!
