Living in Wittmann

I found a pretty nice house in Wittmann but was warned about the high crime rate. Is Wittmann a high crime area or is it a sedate little town? Also, how much noise is generated from the race track and the jets from LAF base?

Depends on where you are re: Jet noise. Wittmann is no better or worse as for crime in my opinion and again the area can make a difference. We've lived out here a while and I percieve that crime has gone done as the population has increased.

Havent been here that long and dont know many people. I think the town is quiet most of the time. The air smells fresh and the stars light up the clear sky. Most crime is penny anny. Not like Pheonix,Tempee,Mesa. I think its cleaned up alot since we moved here but needs lots more. Police come when called. Schools are highest in valley and driving distance between wickenburg or Suprise is 10to20min. Lots to be said for Rural living. We hear no noise from race tracks and the air noise is better than Suprise where the jets rock you at times.

I love living in Wittmann, I have heard of some crime here, but no more than any other rural area. I have been here for six's years and have not heard of any crime's near us.

Has anyone heard anymore on where the hwy is going through Wittman? Are there trolly cars proposed for the old railroad tracks by the hwy and is the rumor true that they will take all land 2 blocks on ea side of the existing HWY for a 6 lane hwy? I heard the vacent land by the firestation has been sold? To whom? Anyone know anything? Are getting a gas station>

There are several impact studies underway that deal with different projects around a large area surrounding Wittmann. One is to make Jomax going west from Grand/US-60 a one way four lane east bound only road extending out passed the Hassayampa River, Patton Road would be a four lane west bound road from Grand and US-60 with cross overs at differing major intersections along the way. This proposal would knock out many newly built homes and would take away direct access from private property owners making some properties inaccessible forcing them to find other solutions like access agreements from neighboring properties to get to their land. This is only a proposal I have not heard no definites on the subject since the last town hall meeting over a year ago. The other is the project with a green light and no funding to extend a route from the I-10 to Wickenburg, with the shortfall in the state budget I don't see how that project be fully completed as planned. Another issue is APS’s idea to build a high voltage power transfer line that would trace the south most boarders of what many consider to be the edges of Wittmann to near Morristown and over to near Lake Pleasant. There was initially talk about a shopping center being built near Grand and Patton, that would include a small strip mall and quick trip like store with fuel. The big bubble burst in property value, Surprise annexing the location and today’s economic woes have left the planners undecided as to if they will continue on with plans. A larger subdivision is still in the works to begin building sometime in 2009 on the old Chrysler Proving Grounds, the project has changed from being a heavily wall to wall housing concept to a two acre or larger upper-priced gated housing joint with a golf course, ducks and a lake. Watching today’s markets bounce around the company that bought the land may go belly up before the first guard shack is built. Other ideas about the railroad tracks include a very controversial plan to build a rail-yard near Nadaburg School in Wittmann, that plan has a great deal of backing by the City of Surprise which holds doom over Wittmann by enjoying a state law that issued the city rights as well as the responsibility to decide the type of use for the area's long term use and planning.
Because of railroad right-of-ways, power grid reserved zones and the fact that the building surrounded by micro-wave like tower next to Grand,(it is one of four its kind in the U.S.) that handles the Western United States communications routings and signals, it is unlikely that Grand would become more than four lanes, because of fiber-optic and other underground treasures...building a fly over would probably be more attractive to planners before having to purchase prime roadside property, but it is tax money that is being spent so who knows?
I would say with the uncertain economy no one is going to touch or begin any projects in the area until an economic recovery is made and there are more definites in making an investment. So for now what you see is what you get.

Interesting! There are many projects Surprise has going in and across the R/R tracks closer in to Surprise and I expected the new fire department and school would be affecting some land owners who are now "Surprised Residents" There may be confusing moments in some areas where county islands have formed, so yes!!! Land owners should watch their property tax projections which they can do by researching their property and their neighboring areas at

You can find your property using 3 different methods available; Search by APN, Address or Subdivision. If you do not know your APN you can point to the general area of your property on the map and keep closing in on your property by narrowing the search area and then find the number sometimes followed by a letter at the end. It can be a time involved task but you will find it, along with other information that you may not remember or know. Good luck with your search! No HAs out here huh?¿ That's funny. I met 1 about a yr ago in Surprise, filling up gas cans @ the Albertson's Express on Grand. He & the wife were nice & we got to talking about Wittmann needing a gas station. Even invited me out to their home. Not all HAs are touchy or rude or mean. Some of them are actually pretty cool!

I havent had any problems w/ crime. Neither have my neighbors & we're off Lone Mountain.

As for that college, Just watch, they'll hit us when they go to build it, separately from our property taxes.

As for Patton Rd.~ what about that post office they're supposed to be building?? I believe that land was traded between a Developer who originally owned that land & Safeway who got Screwed by Napalitano? & owned the NE corner of Lone Mountain & Crozier.
~~ I know that to be true cuz Safeway was fight'g Nap when we moved out here in 2005 & Luke told Nap if she allowed Safeway the permits & stuff to build the gas station & post office & grocery, on those 20 or so acres of land, they'd pull out & go to Yuma. So Nap passed a Land Law that was titled as a County Road Maintenance something or another Law to KEEP get'g the $$ from the Govt to keep Luke here! I have a copy of it that is 74 pages Long!!

Other than that, it's about to get interesting out here so there NEEDS to be more MEETINGS!!!!
