here's an alternative list:

thank a vet
watch an official parade
visit a memorial cemetary
listen to a speaker
hang a U.S. flag in front of your house
send a care package to our boys in Iraq/Afg
donate to the VFW
visit a VA hospital
thank a vet

How about Arlington Park? Awesome place to go today, whether you have kids or not!

This article seems wildly inappropriate to me. I like "fu_bar"'s list much better. My thoughts exactly. Let's put our thoughts and efforts today where they belong: on the people who gave so much for our freedom.

To remind all Americans of the importance of remembering those who sacrificed for their freedom and what it means to be an American. To provide Americans throughout the world an opportunity to join this expression of gratitude in an act of unity. To make Memorial Day relevant, especially to younger Americans.

One more: treat the family of a
deployed service member to hamburgers
or take out chicken, if they'd like it.

This list seems a bit out of place... on a day to remember and thank service people. I like to shop, and have fun things to do with my children...but, this list seems at least 'titled' wrong.

This could be any other what to do this weekend list in Living, not a front page Memorial Day to do list.

This was really nice! Thanks! As the daughter of a WWII and Korean War vet, I really appreciate this.

The other stuff was written for tourists, not for real Chicagoans.

"Ladies THERE'S weddings...

This article is incredibly distasteful on such an important day in our country. Especially considering we are currently fighting two wars. What a slap in the face to our troops and veterans - Memorial Day isn't just another "day off." It's an important day to remember those that have made incredible sacrifices for our freedoms.

This is meant to be "sarcastic" so no one take offense please.
You mean Memorial Day is about Honoring the Men and Women of this Country who gave their lives so we can, Drink like we never had a Beer before, Eat like we never cooked on a Grill before, go shopping and stand in line to drool over a Free Sample like we've never tasted a little morsel before, Buy Liquor like we are starting Prohibition again,?? drive with a .300 BAC and "hope" we don't kill anyone because you know, it is the "official" first day of Summer. Myself? Yes, I will have a Beer but only after I raise it in Toast and Honor of a Fallen Vet.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Aquarius

Unfortunately it won't take much to get your wires crossed, especially if you're trying to keep track of your Christmas preparations. It's hard to work out what still needs to be done. A member of the family is away with the fairies or is being completely fanciful. It's a pest because that sort of behavior can make you feel anxious and harassed.
