They are their providing you a service at a reduced hourly wage because they do make tips .....now if they didn't do their job, then don't tip but if they provide you with good service then you are expected to tip.....not tipping someone who has served you good us just plain rude and redneck......don't go out to eat somewhere knowing a tip is expected if you can't afford to tip them.....and to all the people who hide on here, my name is Bryon and I'm a tipper

they knew how much they was going to make when they took the job. its not my responsibility to pay them for doing the job they are hired and paid for already. there are plenty of jobs that pay minimum wage and walmart pays more sometimes. i do tip sometimes but its when they do more than take my order bring my drinks and food and hand me a bill. i dont fall for sob stories of single mother or what not if your not making money get a job that pays more than 2 dollars an hour

well "aunt" i have in my younger days. let me ask you this. if you buy a 2x4 at lowes and the employe helps you get it from the shelf or load it in a vehicle are we expected to tip. if i go to the dr and he gives me something for a cold should i tip. just because someone does what they are hired for does not mean they should get a tip. if that was the case then if a fireman has to come to your house and put out the flames you should tip each and every fireman that did their job. as for karma i dont believe in it.

Hey ass bag.......they are paid less than minimum wage because they receive tips. If i was in the restaurant industry, I would make sure to "take care" of your food for you. Go to McDonald's where they do make at least minimum wage.

Anyone who goes out to eat and doesnt leave their waiter/waitress atleast a $5 tip is a straight up a$$hole, bottom line. They make $2.13 an hour based on the fact that they receive tips. For you to go somewhere, run some poor girl/guy all over the place, then not leave a tip is pathetic.

Personally, I start at $5, if the server is great, it goes up, if the server is average, its 5 bucks.....only in the event of a terrible server with a bad attitude and bad people skills do i leave no tip. thats only happened twice, and I am 29.

I have waited tables basically since ive been old enough to work. And yes i took the job yes with the understanding of what the pay is. But when i first began working people were alot more decent than they are now also. If you dont have the money to tip thats no big deal at all. Mcdonalds, Burger king, taco bell all these places pay their employees minimum wage so you can take your cheap ass their to eat if you dont have the money to leave a good tip. Thats the first thing i check before i go eat is if ill have plenty of money left over for a good tip. As for the comments that the restaraunts make up the pay; i dont know what your cooking in your trailerpark meth lab but i havent seen a paycheck in two years. Only what i walk out the door with at the end of my shift. And just an FYI servers and bartenders have EXCELLENT memories and they all talk about how their tables tipped. Im not sure if youve ever seen the movie waiting but it is a love/hate relationship for people who dont tip.

Hey Vavol,

Just wanted you to know that YES the employment laws require that if the employee doesn't make enough tips, the company has to pay the difference and make sure the employee makes at least minimum wage. Not sure when or where you worked these jobs you mentioned, but perhaps you should have told them you knew the laws. You are required to make no less that minimum wage as an employee of any company, regardless of whether you are on hourly, salary, or tips. Check your legislation.

To wtf: just so ya know....every occupation you just named gets paid WELL over 2.00 an hour. Hmmm i wander why people dont tip their doctors? And talking about the statement that we knew the pay and should just get another job, have you tried getting a job in this economy? Especially one that is so flexible around a college schedule? Yea your right we should give up on school and go to wal mart and work.

To check the laws: i dont know what kind of fantasy world you live in, but in the real world big corporations with expensive lawyers know how to get around laws such as these. Which is why my paycheck i received this morning was for $3.67. Stop looking for ways to not tip someone for providing you a service and stop being a bunch of cheap bastards. Thats what mcdonalds is for. Before i waited tables as a 15 year old kid i was always still leaving a 5 dollar tip but i guess thats because my parents knew how to raise their kids though.

Well, i worked at roma's for a while and worked my a$$ off, and some nights i only walked out with about $8 in my pocket. And Danny Belcher is such a tight wad, we never got any pay to make up for poor tippers. It might be a law on the books but in the real world it doesn't exist.

That is because most people here are deadbeats. They are too lazy to work and expect the goverment to take care of them. If they don't have enough pride to take a shower before they go out in public, do you think they are going to tip with their free goverment money they get. They don't understand that their server is actually "WORKING". I bet if the server was bringing cigarettes, beer, or pills they would tip!!!!
