Why do guys have such a hard time just being themselves ?

I work with teen guys and I see them one on one and they are nothing like what they try and be when I see them out on the streets. Is there really that much peer pressure to act like ghetto ganster wannabes? Is there really that much peer pressure to make someone live a life trying to be someone that their friends think is cool? 9 out of 10 guys that I meet with have potential to become productive people in society and I see it getting wasted because they hang with that other one percent that will just bring them down and end them with a criminal record. And I am thankful that I do get the chance to get a few of these teens away from that even if for only a weekend so they can be THEMSELF and see what great people they really are......
