well the mayor paid all is followers to attend the meeting all that were in favor of it, it was the carlo demaria show, no-one listen to the people who were not in favor of it. It now goes to the State for the Jan. 15th deadline to file. I hope we can get the mayor from Somerville on our side He does not want this either. DJ Napolitano is an jerk that is all I am saying, Wayne Matewsky should go back to drinking, and Michael McLaughlin should lose wait.

Did you ever hear of a black jack dealer making over 80 Grand, guess the mayor has

I hear DJ Napolitano performed a very immature act to a speaker who was against the casino and it was witnessed by many.

Also heard, the people in favor could speak as long as they wanted and the people against were shut down.

So goes community input.
that stinks

Don't waste your time going to the silly meetings where nothing is ever accomplished by taxpayer input! Such a waste of time to feed one persons ego! I learned this after wasting my time at one of those ward meetings when everyone gets to complain about issues and nothing will ever become solved or addressed by by the issues in the neighborhood that they complain about.

I received a call the night before. Great plan one day notice. Does not matter about the meeting. It has to be approved by a city wide vote.

From what I've read here so far, my time was better spent at home !!!! Was this filmed and will it be on ch 3 any time soon? Would like to watch from the comfort of my own living room !!!!

Glad it has to go to a citywide vote ... anyone know when & how this is done?

Let's hope apathy on the voters' part is non-existent. This is really our chance to be heard and every vote will count...not the time to sit back and say 'the heck with it, why bother'.... that is true of these city meetings but not on something that is voted on citywide ...

It sounds like you are the one who "doesn't bother". Why didn't you go to last night's meeting if you're so concerned? You rant about apathy and you're no better.

The meeting was not filmed. Not sure what happened, ECTV was there, then left prior to the meeting with the big camera. These meetings NEED to be filmed, or it's of my opinion that it violates a type of open meeting law. There should be more meetings and people really need to attend and voice your opinion/concern and learn what is going on. I learned that the entrance to the proposed development would be the Gateway Mall entrance. The entire audience moaned when that was said.

Not surprised that ECTV screwed the public AGAIN as usual, pulled the same lame stunt when Peter cleaned Fatso's clock at a NOT filmed debate during the last election.

EVERETT: Wrong on this one -- I have attended many of these types of meetings, have you in the past? From what I've read here so far, this one went like the others (downhill for anyone opposed to the Casino - more time allotted for those that are 'pro' casino)....Do you really think Carlo wants input from Everett citizens? He only wants to listen to those that are 'pro' his ideas!!!!

Apathy - No anyone that knows me knows that's not true at all !!! I vote in every election - even minor ones .... The ONLY way to make sure this does fail is for everyone who is against a casino gets out and votes ....

Funny how ECTV was there to film (presumably) but then left when the meeting started ???? Strange isn't it. Got an explanation for that ???

Wynn signs lease for Everett casino site

By Kathy McCabe, Globe Staff
Casino mogul Steve Wynn has secured a 14-month lease on the former Monsanto chemical factory, and plans to submit an application to the state gambling commission to build a $1 billion casino there, Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr. said Tuesday.

"We believe Wynn will put in an application," DeMaria told about 300 residents, who gathered Tuesday night for a community meeting to discuss the proposal. "What we do now is negotiate a host agreement" outlining community benefits.

Nancy Sterling, a consultant for Wynn, confirmed the developer will likely submit an application. "It looks like we're headed that way," said Sterling, a senior vice president in the Boston office of ML Strategies, who attended Tuesday's meeting.

DeMaria said that if Wynn were awarded a license, the developer would then move to purchase the 37-acre site on the Mystic River owned by FBT Realty Inc., a private realty firm.

"I know they have a lease for 14 months, and if successful with the license, will negotiate a purchase and sale agreement," he said.

Wynn, whose Las Vegas resorts include the Bellagio and Mirage, is one of two developers eyeing a casino license available for Greater Boston. Caesar's Entertainment has partnered with the owners of the Suffolk Down racetrack in East Boston and Revere to put a $1 billion resort there.

Wynn would compete with Suffolk Downs for the sole casino resort license for Greater Boston. The state gambling commission has set a Jan. 15 deadline for developers to pay a $400,000 application fee and submit company financial documents.

DeMaria said Wynn likes Everett's water views of Boston. "They love that it's on the waterfront. They could do a water taxi service to Boston," he said. Wynn visited the site late last month.

The state's gambling law requires that a community hold a local referendum to decide if a casino should be situated in that community. Such a vote would not be scheduled until after an application, DeMaria said.

Some Everett residents who attended Tuesday's meeting were split on whether a casino belongs in their city.

"I see this as real good for the City of Everett to finally gain some income," said William Frederick, one of several who spoke in favor of a casino. "The taxes here just keep going up, up, up."

But Evmorphia Stratis said a casino would bring more urban ills to Everett. "If we want to increase traffic, pollution and crime, this is the way to go," she said. "I am against this."

Wynn is the creator of iconic casinos on the Las Vegas strip. He attempted to partner with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to build a casino resort in Foxborough, but backed down after local opposition mounted earlier this year.

The lease leak was based on statements made by Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria at a community forum Tuesday night. Rodrigues said the mayor “misspoke,”

best line in the article.....The Mayor misspoke!!! Laughable! You need a translator there to understand what that numb nuts says.
