City adds more planners

The Boston Globe
July 28, 2013

The city recently expanded its Department of Planning and Development. The budget for the fiscal year that began July 1 included funding to hire a senior planner and a sustainability environmental planner. The senior planner will have various tasks, including working with the Planning Board to review development proposals and undertaking short and long-range planning projects. The sustainability environmental planner will manage and consolidate energy initiatives, and spearhead efforts by the city to clean up contaminated former industrial sites, according to James Errickson, the city’s director of planning and development.“Everett is growing, and we need a strong team that can help guide that growth,” Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr. said in a prepared statement. The mayor is constantly hiring new people at ridiculous salaries. Some of these may truly be needed but others are questionable. Many are doing work the mayor should be doing. Past time for new leadership in this city.

That's s disgrace an extra $12,000 for snow and ice removal why wouldnt that be included as a prereq for setting the salary?? How is it possible that the new 911 Director makes 15K more than the previous one and has LESS experience than she did (and she had ZERO). 15K for someone who knows NOTHING about a position that involves life and death and the people who work there get around 12 dollars a week raise.....DISGUSTING!!!!!

Residents get towed when they park where they shouldn't. We get plenty of trash pickup every week. Wall Street says our finances are fantastic.

It seems taxes and unnecessary employees and high salaries are the greatest issues. What's the plan the other candidates have for resolving these concerns we citizens have. I haven't heard any and can't imagine seeing any one lose their job when the "budget" has approved this spending. Therefore, our woes will be constant no matter who gets in. You'll see!!

If you are serious about learning the answer, call their campaign offices and ASK!

I have. All round about answers. Nothing solid.

Only thing we all here is ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE, so get out and VOTE.

On topix, it's the same, only with degrading insults.

If you're so smart TED, besides saying we need new leadership, and other comments, how is a new mayor going to FIX this city?

I never said I was "so smart," nor do I think have I been "degrading". Ask yourself, is the city now better or worse off since the current mayor has been in office? You want answers? A TELEVISED debate would provide these to the citizens (NOT what we read in the papers!) Why does the current mayor refuse to debate his opponents?

Why is the mayor against a debate? Is he afraid of questions? Mr Mayor -- People are noticing!

that would be possible if the mayor would agree to a debate or these papers would put in what the candidates have to say but the mayor won't let them put anything they have to say.
