Has anyone else noticed the layout of Glendale Parks new ballfields? Is it me or are these layed out incorrectly? It looks like the softball diamond on the Elm street side is moved too far forward from its original spot. Same thing for the other softball field on the Ferry St side. From the looks of it if 2 softball games are played at the same time both centerfielders would be looking at the centerfielders for the other game. Also for the baseball field the left fielder would be standing where 2nd base will be on the softball diamond. Also if the righfielder or leftfielder on the basball field runs for a foul ball they are going to run into the dugouts of the softball fields. Also the light poles are all wrong and placed too close to the playing fields. Will be interesting when some kid runs into one shagging a fly ball.Someone messed up on this layout. Just wait and see the finished product. Someone will have some explaining to do.

It looks like they are building a new Fenway Park. It's not going to belong to the people of Everett anymore. It will belong to Everett High.

The mayor already said it was for baseball only. God forbid us taxpayers get to use our own park for recreational purposes.

Whether it's for EHS use or any other organization doesn't matter. My statement was about the layout of the playing fields themselves. They are in the wrong spots. Each softball diamond is moved too far forward from its original spot. Its not going to line up properly. Better to correct it now than later.

Field will not be ready this year to play ball on. All EHS Varsity baseball games are away this year.

I THOUGHT THE SAME THING BUT I DID TALK TO THE FORMEN ON SITE AND TOLD ME THEY MOVED THE DIAMOND FORWARD BECAUSE OF DRAINAGE BEHIND THE BACK STOP. And that everything was correct, the foul pole was making me nervous that is for the highschool field

Those fields never had a drainage issue before. I don't understand the drainage answer. Drainage issues on ballfields are resolved when putting the proper materials under the playing survace to allow proper drainage. Not some bs about addind a drain behind the backstops. Those fields are moved way to far forward.

IMHO,
Not sure how long you have been in Everett? I been here since the seventies and have seen standing water on the park on more than one time and
actually Enough one time to make it look like a lake.

Even if what you say is true. Placing a drain behind the backstops is not the correct way to resolve it. Placing the proper drainage materials below the playing surface is the right way to fix it.

IMHO,
Not sure but believe there is a French drain system. That's where they take large receiving tubes that are placed around the perimeter and the tubes are perforated and backed filled with the drainage material that you mentioned.
The water prelates down in the ground and thru this drainage material and has easy access into the tubes and system. What I think your talking about is the drain covers that give access to the system. Also this system is connected to the street drain. That was done on the corner of Ferry and Elm. The park is considered sub-teraniam, that means below the surface grade of the surrounding area. In my opinion, licensed contractor, this is being done correctly. Man, you should have seen it when it looked like a lake and took about a week to finality drain. Anyone for Jet Skying Glendale Park?

Maybe they are doing exactly what you say and are installing the drainage system correctly. That still doesn't eliminate the fact that these 3 ball fields (1 baseball and 2 softball) are being setup wrong. Ball fields should be set up with little or no chance of running into an obstacle. This is not the case with the current layout. I will guarantee that one day either a leftfielder or rightfielder playing on the baseball field will undoubtly run into an obstacle such as a bench from either softball field or a light post set to closely to the playing fields. I seriously don't think whoever planned this new layout gave proper consideration to the necessary area need to play on these fields safely. Remains to be seen.

Is there water from the springs under the park that leads to drainage issues? I say we leave it to the pros.

No ,I don't Believe so. If you remember just picture yourself standing in the middle of the park. Where the high school sits is shill side and look across Ferry St and it also is hillside. Water runs down hill and what is called the "water table", the level at which water stands under the surface is high due to this and the fact the park is below the surrounding streets. Plane and simple.

The Pop Warner football program formerly known as the Everett Huskies will not be returning to Glendale Park. This fact alone is such a positive that I really don't care what else happens.
