Isn't it a conflict of interest that the chief of police can hire security guards from his security company and use them for road officers? The word going around the streets is that this is happening. And this is just only one of the things going wrong with that place. How many vehciles does that place need. They have more cars than officers. It's insane. Am I really paying for 3 helicopters that they have????? You cant be serious.

What about a town of what 2000 having a SWAT team? What is that costing us? Is this just away for the the chief to get his security guards in? Some thing has to get fixed or some one needs to get caned. How long will the people of winthrop harbor let this go on for?

Exactly. It seems that there is definetly something going on with this police department. I just think that people who know about these things are just scared for retaliation from the department. What Winthrop Harbor really needs is a real chief, not a crooked politician.

How about the emergency plant watering vehicle? You can't be serious. I spoke to that older gentlemen and he told me that he works for the parks department. Why is he driving a police car and watering flowers from inside his vehicle with his lights on. What a joke. That's what we are really paying for huh.

To "nypd", first of all, Winthrop Harbor has nearly 4 times the population you cite. Secondly, why not ask the people of another tiny town, Colombine, if a SWAT team might have come in handy on that dark day of bloodbaths in their high school? Or ask the residents of dozens of other towns where school shootings have occured. "SWAT" teams in smaller towns are not manned by extra officers, they are comprised of the everyday officers who take additional training. If a hostage or active-shooter situation occurs, at least the officers who are expected to save the day have the additional tactics, skills and equipment to deal with it. Why not hold off on comments about things you so obviously know nothing about?

"harborboy", your comments couldn't be more ridiculous. "they have more cars than officers" is a blatant lie. Fact is, they have the exact number of cars that they need to do their jobs. As you're obviously an expert at running a police department, exactly how many cars should their agency have? And talk about insane, to assert that Winthrop Harbor owns helicopters is ludicrous. The taxpayers there don't pay 1 cent for any helicopters. You obviously have a personal issue with that police department, why not address that with them versus posting such nonsense?

...and to "harboralumni", I also spoke to that older gentleman, who told me that he works for both the parks department and police department. He has been a Community Service Officer for many years. With this arrangement, he pointed out, he uses that Police/ESDA pickup truck with the water tank to water the village flower pots, saving the expense of the parks department having to buy another vehicle. So what? They are saving taxpayer dollars, not costing.

It's obvious a Chief Brumlik fan is scanning this forum. Ask how he lost his job with Lake County sheriff's dept. Ask about his questionable driving skills while impared in a squad car. Ask about his and ex-mayor loy's land deals in La Grange Wi. How about making the guy with access to a helocopter an officer so chief can brag about having a helocopter. How about hiring an ex lake county sheriff deputy who got fired from the County for calling in a bomb threat at a grade school so his girlfriend a teacher, could get the day off. Who in the hell hired this guy LOL LOL

Kurt, the fact that you cannot even spell “helicopter” deserves the two LOL’s in your post. The rest of your post is simply nonsense, attempting to spin partial facts into something negative. The simple fact is that our Police Chief has been here for many years (10 or more?), with “proof in the pudding” results. Criminal activity is kept in check, we have very low incidents of thefts, robberies, gangs, drugs, etceteras. You think this is all by accident? Not a single law suit… show me another village that can make the same claim. The helicopter program is run and staffed by volunteer officers from dozens of surrounding agencies. Those people put their lives on the line to find lost kids and adults, apprehend fleeing felons, etceteras. You think it’s all so our Chief can brag? Get real. You’ll need to do better than that in your efforts to tear down our department which consists of dedicated officers and civilian staff, working for low wages to protect and serve all of us residents.

“FactCheck” It’s obvious that you are one of Mr. Brumlik’s “elite”. As for the swat team being ‘everyday officers’ you are correct, but how long will it take them to get to town in a crisis since some of them live out of state? As far as the helicopter not costing taxpayers 1 cent you are wrong. Radio traffic & mission data are maintained by our department personnel, which does cost taxpayers. Also do you know why the LEAC link is only on the our website not other departments..hummmm. As far as the crime rate being down, it is not due to the accolades of Mr. Brumlik. I would have to credit the fine citizens of our village for that. For it has been that way long before he came to town. Finally if all employees are so happy working for him why do the officers (and now the civilian staff) have to have a union to represent them. They never needed one before.

"inthe know", the department has dispatchers on duty 24/7. They are already there when they answer the air crews on the radio. There is not 1 cent additional cost to do so. The LEAC link is on WHPD web site because WHPD was the founding agency. LEAC has its own website, and is staffed by officers from dozens of other police and sheriff agencies. They are all volunteers, including those who work for WHPD. You won't credit the police department's efforts for the low crime rate? Credit the citizens instead? Get real! As for unions, take a look around, the vast majority of police departments have unions. Employees everywhere want representation in hopes they can maximize pay and benefits.

The WH pd should be looking at Roger Sanderson if they want to do something about the marijuana problem in our county.

If you start making accusations about people, you can get yourself in all kinds of trouble. More than you ever bargained for.

WH is a Pro-Nazi like town. We all know it. That is why the blacks are mostly out. I do like one other thing they do. They pull over a lot of those frigin Mexicans unlike Waukegan who turns their back to them and let the over run the town. To drive thru WH simply use your blinker if you even think of turning or changing a lane and stop like 3 feet before the white lines at intersections. If not they will pull you over if they want to for improper lane usage. As of now I avoid Waukegan and gurnee for those frigin red light cameras.
