What new stores do people really want in Franklin?

Restaurants? Entertainment? Home improvement retail? What businesses are the town and county leaders trying to recruit? What businesses are they trying to keep out of Franklin?

Anything would be an improvement, but its not likely to happen. The only good store we have in Franklin now is Lowe's. Even the new Wal Mart is just one of their cheapest little stores. Of course it don't take much to be better than the local ones that have ripped us off for decades. Go to Sylva or Clayton. Shopping local in Franklin is a joke.

i would love to see a restaurant with a great salad bar!!! the best one in town is at the factory, and it is alright but nothing super.... we need a place like ponderosa restaurants from the Midwestern states, with a large selection of items and maybe a country buffet attached, highlighting the foods specific to the Appalachian and southern diet. Since this town is a sort of tourist town with the gem mining and the Floridians summer homes, highlighting recipies from this unique area and showing the southern appalachian culture would be good for the locals and the tourists alike!

I would like to see the sweepstakes cafes open back up. It gave us something do, but no the government thinks it takes advantage of the poor. Bunch of Hippocrates it's not ok to spend our money on entertainment but its ok for North Carolina to be the leading tobacco supplier in the country that kills millions. Oh yea that's right the nc has their hand in the tobacco industries.

Well for one, if people would stay out of those sweepstakes cafes you would not be such a poor person. Sad to say I work for a local county and I can't afford to put one dollar in a machine. It's very hard for my family of four to make it from paycheck to paycheck. Anyways this area is in bad need if something new. Something that would be fun to just go spent some time even if you don't have the money to spend like a Bass Pro Shops. The closest one is in TN. Or a good eating place like an Olive Garden or some big steak house.

What Happened & Tired 1.........neither of you two are in Franklin so why do you Worry what we have here. I, Being a born and raised native here In franklin Am glad to see the sweepstakes gone. I saw What used to be good stores & Restaurants turned into those. We need to keep these family run businesses here In franklin running, Not going bankrupt and turned into Useless Gambling buildings. Anyone in Franklin wants to gamble? Its not that far to Cherokee.

Well Local Person, I spend a lot if my time in franklin due to the fact my family lives there. I was just trying to help you guys over there out but oh well. Now I hope Franklin gets a large strip mall, a few more gas stations, more fast food restaurants, a few Internet cafes, and whatever else that will attract some of these college kids that we are over run with.

As far as not being from Franklin, I'm not. However I traveled there every weekend to play at these sweepstakes cafes. I would rather give my money to these locally owned businesses then to give it to Harris casino. I now know longer travel there or go to Harris casino. However when I was in Franklin I would spend money at multiple different stores. Including restruants, gas stations, little clothing stores and other locally owned businesses. So if you want to keep your town small then don't complain about the economy in your area. However if you want growth and to bring in people to spend money then you need to change the way you think. You need bussinesses that attract people.

We so looked forward to a new Super Wal Mart being built here in Franklin. The new store is the same as the old store except for the isles being narrower, the addition of a food shopping store, no garden store and a longer walk from the parking area. Such a shame the new store is a dude. Now we have four Subway Shops and no Optical shops that are competitive. If you want optics or tires you still have to drive 25 miles to Sylva or Dillard.Really, what in the world was the point other then to enrich some folks that owned the land the Wal Mart is built on?

Because Franklin is much poorer than Sylva and Clayton, thanks to corrupt county and town government that wants to keep control. They do not want any outsiders coming in except for tourists to go to the Drake theater and fun factory place and ABC store. Don't want no big box stores, keep them out.

They say 85 percent of the people at Drakes entertainment places are from out of the county. Local people don't go there but the tourist committee give them $50,000 in local tax money to advertise in Atlanta. Its a racket. and they want even more of that county government money every year.

I want more bars on Main Street like Outdoor 76. The craft beer that they will be selling will get me drunk very fast.

We need anything.

Yet, I would like to see less antique and consignment and more places that sell clothes I would wear in public.

Go to Wal-Mart. That is the public in Franklin.
