The mall is private property last we checked. Why do you think everything is either owned by the government or should be? How about if we turn your house into a homeless shelter?

With so many homes in this area, how the heck can this mall be failing? I have the same question for the few restaurants in the area.(Does EVERYONE exclusively go to Carabbas and Outback? Damn they're crowded.) The Seminole Town Center is a $4 toll away. And Waterford Lakes is outside only. Altamonte Mall is PACKED and 436 sucks. So why the heck don't people go to the Oviedo Mall? It's very sad.

poor design, lack of quality stores, low inventory.....
I know if I drive to WFL, Altamonte, Sanford or Fl Mall,
I can find what I am looking for. I gave up on Oviedo when too many times, they did not have the items in stock.
We should shop there, why????

The Lowes, Staples, Petsmart, Borders, Ross, and Target by the Oviedo Marketplace Mall are busy places. It's not the location, it's the selection of stores at the Oviedo Marketplace Mall. Oviedo and Winter Springs are middle class family communities, so not everyone has the disposable income to shop at Macys and Dillards. Waterford Lakes area does have a good mix of stores Dollar Tree, BestBuy, Super Target, Kohls, Sports Authority, Bed Bath & Beyond, Pier One, etc. Oviedo Market Place mall does not have a good mix of stores.

The Oviedo Market Place mall would make a good office park with it's proximity to 417.

Wow. You're totally off base. The Macy's and Dillards there are the lowest grade stores of their respective chains. There is PLENTY of money in Winter Springs. I don't shop at Oviedo Mall because the merch at Macy's and Dillard's there is cr@p. The buyers for those stores catering to the senior crowd it seems. I also don't need anything at the clock shop, the chinese junk store, or the shoe repair shop.

Simple - carry the stores and merchandise for the demographic with the purchasing power and they will come.

In the mean time, I will head to Millennia when I need to go to the mall.

Some poor mall management going on here. The right stores for the demographic are not there. Sad to see. My fav mall has always been Altamonte, been going there since 1977.

yes I agree the assortment of stores there is weak. Put an Abercrombie and a Hollister in there and all those Winter Springs/Oviedo moms will be very grateful they don't have to trek up 436 every other weekend to get their sons/daughters a shirt etc., for this weekends party.

That's sooo true. In the Oviedo area you either have soccer moms or college kids coming into those stores, but none of the inventories cater to those markets..SAD. Only time will tell if they can come out of their slump.

What's WRONG with you people? The Oviedo Mall is a beautiful mall with the same kinds of stores as any OTHER mall, except a toy store, which I don't understand. They have SEVERAL women's clothing stores, nice department stores, jewelry stores, cell phone places, and just a variety of this and that, with, here again, the exception of a toy store, but that's all I can think of that it DOESN'T have. I can't understand some people hating so much on a beautiful MALL! Get a life! CERTAINLY you must be able to find something with some merit to bitch about! What about Casey Anthony, for starters?

I'm from Winter Springs, not Tampa, so I know what I'm talking about, as far as the mall here, goes.

I have always enjoyed the Oviedo Marketplace, especially for movies. It is so sad there are so many empty stores. I was alarmed to hear today it is going to close and become some big box store. Does anyone know what's going on and when it might close? I hope it's not true. It is a peaceful little mall.

Here's an Oviedo Mall shopping story...

I was looking for a Timex Ironman watch to replace an old one that couldn't be repaired. First I went online and found them at Sear's website. There were lots of options and prices from $39 to just over $70. I pinpointed the one I wanted and could have easily then.

Because of the lousy economy and horrible retail sales, I felt I should support our local Sears store, so I went to the Oviedo Mall. No one was tending the jewelry counter, but I found the Ironman watches in a locked display case where I could view them, but not touch. The model I wanted wasn't there and they were all more expensive than those shown online. I waited a few minutes along with another couple, but no clerk showed up.

I came home, ordered it on the net and it came four days later.

Happy Holidays!

The Oviedo Marketplace mall and several others locally, are owned by a company of people who do not know how to run malls efficiently. They were just granted extra time to come up with a multi-million-dollar debt payment and may go into bankrupcy. Perhaps another better run organization will buy them cheap. I wrote to our Congressman several times about this situation and he claimed he could do nothing. He was then voted out of office.

Yes I do. Oviedo Mall is run by a family member of the parent company who does not have a clue.
Altamonte management is a different person who knows what to do
